Key conclusions
- Fans don't like the new changes to the Xbox 360 dashboard; iconic features removed.
- Nostalgic fans miss Blades, the New Xbox Experience and Metro panels.
- Limited dashboard after Xbox Store shutdown frustrates users.
Fans were disappointed in the news Xbox 360 dashboard. When the Microsoft Store on the Xbox 360 shut down earlier this year, there were big changes to the system. The biggest change has been to the way the home screen and dashboard are presented, as several icons and features have been completely removed.
Over the years, the Xbox 360 dashboard has had an iconic and memorable look. The very first was called Blades Dashboard, which many consider a nostalgic classic. There was also the New Xbox Experience, or NXE, which was more customizable and took advantage of the avatar feature. However, until the next generation, Metro was the last dashboard to give the Xbox 360's home screen a nice visual look while providing the functionality of Blades. Part of what made all of these options work was the multitude of available options that made the console feel very alive. Unfortunately, recent changes to Dash have caused a backlash from fans.

Xbox 360 gamers have faced some problems
It seems that many gamers on Microsoft's Xbox 360 are encountering an unfortunate set of error codes when trying to log into their consoles.
Reddit user Numerous-Bath-993 wanted to check out the stories of Xbox 360 owners from other countries where the new dashboard was available. They set their console's locale to “Other” and logged into Xbox Live to check, but were disappointed with the visual confirmation. Many of the on-screen elements were already removed previously due to the removal of the Xbox 360 Store earlier this year, and this regional update took away even more content. It's important to note that some commentators residing in the US region have retained access to more icons, meaning the change may be exclusive to those with consoles installed in a different locale. Fans believe that Microsoft is encouraging gamers to get the new system as many of the Xbox 360 services have become restricted in other regions. Several fans shared their negative reaction, even comparing the situation to returning to a childhood home where all the furniture is gone.
What made Xbox 360 dashboards special?
With how the control panel has changed over the years, it's no secret that fans hold certain ones close to their hearts. Many fans are nostalgic for the Xbox 360 Blades era, as it reminded them of the simpler times when the console first launched. Many also believe that it is the glue that connected the original Xbox to the Xbox 360, as it followed a similar vibe. Similarly, the Metro and Kinect update was also special for other gamers as they became most associated with the console due to its sleek look and number of icons and buttons.
Although many consider the era of the Xbox 360 to be over, there have been times when lucky collectors have been able to find Xbox 360s with rare control pads. While this may be mostly for nostalgia purposes, a few fans have been able to purchase Xbox 360s that have retained the previously mentioned updates to their dashboards. Of course, they will mostly just serve as a fond memory of the time when many considered the Xbox 360 to be its heyday.
