Why Toda became the MVP of the series

Key conclusions

  • In the end, Gojo's belief that he could lift others above loneliness by highlighting the theme of support won out.
  • Aoi Todo played an important role as Yuuji's support system in battles and key moments throughout the series.
  • Todd's cursed Boogie Woogie technique and selfless nature made him an indispensable character in Kaisen Jujutsu.

Jiu-jutsu Kaisen would be nothing if not for a series that emphasized the importance of friendship and the benefits of relying on others. It was the highlight of the fan-favorite character Gojo's presence on the show, especially when it came time for his long-awaited showdown against Sukuna. These 2 represented opposite ideologies where the former wanted to lift others up so no one would be alone and the latter always relied only on himself.

So seeing how the story ended makes it clear that Gojo's ideology was supreme and it showed how central the theme of support was to Jiu-jutsu Kaisen. In this vein, perhaps no character in all of history played a more useful and important role than the legendary Aoi Todō, who can be seen as the reason why Yuuji was able to overcome the greatest obstacles! So let's see how indispensable Toda was in the story.

History of Ark

Terrible uterine arch

When Toda debuted in the series, no one could have predicted the story arc that would unfold for him. He was introduced as a violent and hot-tempered witch who beat Megumi senseless simply for having sad taste in women, the absurdity of which caught fans off guard and quickly piqued their interest. During a goodwill event in Kyoto, Toda was about to do the same to Yuji, until he learns that their tastes in women are the same, leading him to imagine a lifetime with Yuji as his best friend.

Equating Yuuji to his best friend and brother, Toda became the greatest supporting character in the series. It was first seen in the same arc where Jujutsu High was attacked by Hanami, a special level curse. Although Yuji and Toda were way above their pay grade, they continued to defeat the Cursed Spirit by using both of their Cursed Techniques in perfect combination as they played off each other very well.

What can I change within my technique? Only living things? no! My technique also works on Crused Corpses and inanimate objects!

However, despite being integral to every single combat situation, Toda's development really shined in moments outside of battles. The first is during the fight against Hanami, where he sees that Yuuji is missing in battle. By talking to him sternly and slapping him, he makes Yuuji realize that he shouldn't get too angry, so the two of them bond and go on to beat Hanami for life! It's the same at the end of the series in the battle against Sukuna, where Toda comes in at the last moment to save everyone and help Yuuji once again in a difficult time.

However, the best example of Toda being the greatest supporting character is Yuji's battle against Mahito. Mahito was probably Yuuji's biggest enemy in the story in the sense that they were both opposites representing different ideologies similar to Gojo and Sukun. After killing so many people, including those very dear to Yuuji like Nobara and Junpei, Mahita was at the lowest point of his life, so much so that he just gave up.

Not batting, he was easy pickings for Mahit to score at the spot. However, it was here that Yuuji was saved by Toda, who gave him a life-changing speech about the necessity of what they were doing, and how Yuuji now retains the will of everyone he's lost, so he just can't give up. After Yuuji rejoins the fight, he and Toda proceed to deliver one of the most satisfying beatings of the series to Mahito, and even at the end, Toda willingly sacrifices his Cursed Technique so Yuuji can finally defeat Mahito for good.

Todo is the perfect partner in crime

Aside from the plot and thematic importance of this character, he is also one of the strongest sorcerers in Jiu-jutsu Kaisen The universe and perfect to fight together! Todd's cursed technique, the Boogie Woogie, is one of the most difficult as it allows him to switch places with anything that has cursed energy by clapping his hands. Although it sounds simple at first glance, Todd's creativity and skill with his technique is very disorienting to his opponents!

This was evident in every battle he was involved in as even Sukuna, the strongest and most skilled sorcerer in history with the greatest knowledge of cursed energy, struggled to keep up with Todo's masterful use of the Boogie Woogie. The technique alone combined with his already superhuman strength makes Todd an incredibly difficult opponent.

Is he changing with me or Sukuna's vessel? This split second decision makes my mind reel!

Moreover, he is a selfless character who, despite his obvious talent and strength, strives to make Yuuji shine as much as possible. Due to the nature of Boogie Woogie, it's the perfect “support” for the Cursed Technique, disorienting the opponent and works great in conjunction with another mage, as seen by how well Toda and Yuuji have fought together each time.

Also, Todo is incredibly cunning. After the integral role he played in helping Yuji defeat Mahito for good, he was shown to have seemingly lost the ability to perform his Cursed Technique. However, he made a surprise comeback against Sukuna with a vibrato attached to his left arm, allowing him to perform the Boogie Woogie with even greater speed and power than ever before, making him indispensable in Sukuna's eventual defeat and rescue all other sorcerers. from the range of the Wrathful Shrine. It's safe to say that if Todd hadn't been in the story, Jiu-jutsu Kaisen would have ended much earlier!

Jiu-jutsu Kaisen can be streamed on Amazon Prime and Netflix.
