Officially announced back in September 2023, Tales of the Shire debuted its first trailer at a difficult time for The Lord of the Rings franchises, with proverbs Gollum was launched just a few months ago. But Tales of the Shire had a much stronger premise than Gollum. The concept of cozy Hobbit life simulator is similar to such games Animal crossing and Stardew Valley was engaging, and one that took the franchise in a welcome new direction.
Early impressions of Tales of the Shire however, were not too positive. After some rough looking trailers preview early builds Tales of the Shire began to hit the Internet and was met with considerable criticism. It was announced just a few weeks ago Tales of the Shire will no longer launch this year, but rather in March 2025. While some fans may be disappointed by this news, it is undoubtedly a good thing, giving its developers more time to polish the game and get it ready to a potentially ideal launch date.

While there are still a few big releases in 2024, that's nothing compared to the onslaught expected in February 2025. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 the month is scheduled to begin sharply on February 11, the same day as Civilization 7. Assassin's Creed Shadows is now scheduled to launch in just a few days, on February 14th. Don't nod The Lost Records: Bloom and Wrath out February 18 with Obsidian He confessed. And finally, Wild monster hunters and Like a Dragon: A Yakuza Pirate in Hawaii both end the month on February 28.
February could be one of the biggest months of 2025 in terms of video game releases, and there's barely any breathing room left. luckily Tales of the Shire is avoiding this February crunch entirely, instead releasing on March 25th, 2025. After such a busy month filled with massive AAA RPGs and grand strategy games, Tales of the Shire can act as a refreshing breath of much lighter air, hopefully delivering a cozy, nostalgic and unpretentious experience.

But February won't be the only busy period for the 2025 games. If every game currently confirmed for 2025 hits the release window, it could easily be the greatest year in video game history. Long awaited sequels like Borderlands 4, Metroid Prime 4, Death Stranding 2, A fableand recently announced Yotei's ghost all are currently slated for release next year.
Experimental franchise spinoffs like 2XKO, Doom: The Dark Agesand Pokemon Legends: ZA also on the way. and of course Grand Theft Auto 6 is finally coming to consoles next year in what could be the biggest event in gaming history.
2025 is quickly shaping up to be a very busy year for video game releases Tales of the Shire seemed to have found a sweet spot. Tales of the Shire managing to avoid the initial February surge while also likely avoiding the sharp attacks that are likely to occur shortly after the March launch.
