How many games were released on the Game Boy?
To this day, the Game Boy is often remembered as the greatest handheld console ever. Great support, nothing like it and really fulfilled the fantasy of having a console on the go. While it didn't have the same power as the NES of the time, it delivered small games that really fit the form factor and playback time is battery powered.
And this meant that the console also received quite a lot of support. About 1,000 games were specially created for this system. With the later release of the Game Boy Color, many games were still compatible with the original Game Boy, resulting in about 1300 games in total.
When was the last Game Boy game released?
From its first release in 1989 until it was officially discontinued in 2003, the Game Boy remained well supported. However, having been replaced by the Game Boy Advance, support cut off all but at once after its termination.
incl March 30, 2001the last game supported on the original Game Boy was released. It was Japan Exclusive Shikakui Atama o Maruku Suru: Kanji no Tatsujin. It took 12 years from start to finish.
For the Game Boy Color, this is the last exclusive game released on the July 18, 2003. This last game was also exclusive to Japan Doraemon no Study Boy: Kanji Master Yomikaki. It was the final game just five years after its initial launch.
What were the Game Boy launch titles?
Game Boy was the successor to the Game & Watch systemswhich came with one built-in game. Although many other handhelds came in quick succession, the Game Boy was still the mainstay, and so the variety of games wasn't exactly extensive.

Some Game Boy launch titles were simply ports of NES games, with some being completely exclusive. Super Mario Land was the real system seller here, being one of the few games to be distributed across all markets. Otherwise, the Game Boy had a fairly limited launch, with only four, five and six games at launch in Japan, North America and Europe respectively.
