What to expect from Sega in 2025

Over the past few years, Sega was quite busy. Its flagship franchise, sonic the hedgehog, has been in full swing for the past three years with his games and movies, Metaphor: ReFantazio won three awards at The Game Awards to close out 2024, and the series formerly known as Yakuza enjoyed a new life under Like a Dragon name for some time. For Sega fans, there's definitely been a lot to look out for lately.

Fortunately for those fans, Sega shows no signs of stopping anytime soon. Fans of the company's most famous IPs have at least a few things to look forward to this year, even if 2025 isn't quite as impressive as the last couple of years before it. Sega even has plenty of room to surprise even the most die-hard fans with some releases coming later this year that it may have saved for a rainy day on the way to 2026.

Sega's currently known 2025 releases

When it comes to Sega's more specific plans for 2025, only five or six titles are fully confirmed for release at this point. Although some are quite expected, with Like a Dragon and Sonic adding new games to its lineup, Sega is changing things up a bit this year. The company may have plenty of plans for future titles, such as resurrecting a few classic IPs, but they don't seem to have anything in sight for fans to look forward to right now beyond Virtual fighter.

When it was announced at The Game Awards, Jeff Cayley himself said Sonic Racing CrossWorlds release more news in 2025. Despite the lack of a specific release date, Kaley also mentioned that he's already played a build of the game, suggesting that its release is just around the corner. This could work in Sega's favor, as there is a noticeable trend with all of the publisher's confirmed releases thus far, and that is the absence of any titles after the first quarter of Sega's fiscal year. For gamers, this leaves plenty of room for a few unexpected announcements to look out for.

What surprises can fans get from Sega in 2025

Part of Sega has already teased that there are exciting things in the works that the developers can't wait to announce; the biggest teasers related to the future Jet Set Radio and Atlus projects. These teasers don't specifically point to any releases, but are interesting announcements about Jet Set Radio and possible Person 6 could be part of Sega's 2025 plans. There are also rumors of games like a Sound heroes the remake circling around may have some merit, but doesn't seem to hold any weight on its face Sonic Racing CrossWorlds.
