During The Game Awards, the long awaited Witcher 4The trailer hit the big screens, revealing Ciri as the new main character. It looks like this is just the first step in fulfilling the next phase of the series, as the developer is rumored to have plans to create a trilogy about Cira's lore.
Among the teasers that CD Projekt Red has been feeding its fan base with, a series of coin images have been doing the rounds and causing intense speculation. Sebastian Kalemba, Game Director Witcher 4 project, released the first image of the coin after announcing that the game had entered full-scale production. Since then, more project developers have been teasing the community with these coin images. It's still unclear what this coin means, as well as its implications for the future of the game, as most of the related posts have been out of context.

Ciri's age estimate in The Witcher 4
The Witcher 4 is obviously set after The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but there are a few factors that help determine Cira's age.
The coins are likely a nod to the elements synonymous with The Witcher franchise.
Much of the discussion surrounding the overall imagery of the coin came from the detailed runes engraved on it. There is a crescent moon along the borders of the coin, and its center is decorated with what appears to be a mountain with an entrance directly below it. Right on top of it sits the sun, partially obscured by the moon, casting dying rays of light across the sky.
While these elements are intriguing, this is not the first time they have appeared in the The sorcerer franchise. When the official image of Gwent for the standalone game was released in 2020, it featured many similar elements (mountains, moon, and cave entrance), with the only exception being an eclipse.
It's also worth noting that Sebastian Calemba is the head of art for Gwent, which might explain some of the similarities. On his X account (formerly known as Twitter), Sebastian revealed the other side of the coin that reads “Days and nights pass, but the blood remains the same” in Tolkien's runes.
While it's debatable what that line is referring to, the monster shown in the trailer reaffirms to Ciri that fate cannot be changed no matter how hard you try.
Coins can represent key storylines in Witcher Lore
Of all the assumptions, the most common one links the solar eclipse on the coin to the curse of the Black Sun, otherwise known as the Black Sun. A prophecy by the wizard Eltibald describes an eclipse that marks the beginning of the end of mankind. According to him, sixty girls will be born under this Black Sun, and the curse will turn them into treacherous monsters that will contribute to the return of Lilith, the goddess of the night, and the end of the world.
The authenticity of the prophecy was doubted, many believed that the words were the empty ramblings of a madman. Thus, the prophecies eventually came to be called the mania of the mad Eltibald. However, writings about Davka's menhirs, gravestones from the Vazgorsky necropolis, and legends about werewolves confirmed Eltibald's prophecy.
Each of these pieces of lore told of Lilith and the end of the world orchestrated by sixty golden-crowned women born under the Black Sun. Since the words of the prophecy and the image on the coin are very similar, it is clear that Witcher 4The reference to the coin may allude to the apocalypse.
Another speculation gaining traction among fans is that the coins are a reference to the upcoming Confluence of the Spheres. The coin, which depicts celestial bodies and stones, can be interpreted as monoliths stacked closely together, in contrast to the image of mountains from the earlier theory. This cataclysm occurred 1,500 years before the events of history when the realms of the multiverse collided. It will be interesting to see what direction CDPR ultimately takes, as these are several narrative devices that a potential Ciri trilogy could be built around.
