Can you trust what you see in the Zone?
One faction that appears in several Stalker games now is The Ward. Although they often show their faces in the series and in the Zone, it can be difficult to read them. So who are these militaristic people who call such a hostile land their home?
Who is Ward?
The Ward, also simply Ward, is a militaristic faction active in the Zone. They are one of the largest and most lightly armed forces in the regionsomething that brought them fame and infamy among other groups.
Earlier Stalker games mention that Ward has government fundingwhich makes sense since they are well equipped with personal weapons and body armor and have some of the only working vehicles in the entire Zone.
What do they want?
The purpose of The Ward is one of the simplest. They want to be the ruling force in the Zone and establish control over it in all forms. So far, they have done so by being the armed forces assisting SIRCAA's scientific efforts in the field.
The exact details or ultimate purpose of this goal are unknownas Ward does not share much information with those outside the immediate chain of command.

A skilled stalker needs the best tools.
Their control of the Zone so far has consisted of establishing bases at key points throughout the area. They are usually located in former military locations and key points in the Zone, especially checkpoints along the Security Wall.
They have also proven themselves as pseudo-police when other factions appear to be gaining power in the Zone. They often find themselves at the center of conflicts with large groups of stalkers and, in particular, with Monolith.
Who is their leader?
Aleksandar Karshonov is acting head of Ward's activities within the “Zone”. He can be seen in person at key sites and events throughout the area, which is surprising for someone with the rank of colonel.
It appears that his rank is actually at or equal to that of an active military colonel. Which shows more hints that Ward is an offshoot of the government military. This is surprising given that Ward also draws a lot of his powers from mercenary groups.
Where are they based?
The government has a base at a former chemical plant, located in the center of the map in the larger map section of the same name.
It's a small peninsula-shaped section of the map west of the Small Zone where you start Stalker 2.
They also set up operational posts in places where they are either investigating or trying to stop the violence, usually resulting in a martial law-like situation.
How do they react to other factions?
Ward's reaction to the other factions is usually less than pleasant, which makes sense given that many of their ideals revolve around power with an iron fist. They are openly hostile to most monoliths due to their fringe values, idiosyncratic tendencies, and connection to the Zone's power.
Other factions are not immune to Ward's wrath, but they often wait until provoked to attack other factions or single stalkers.
However, they are not above using other groups as tools in their endeavours. Most notably, this occurred in Operation Zenith and Operation Fairwater, during which Ward called on lone stalkers and groups such as Freedom and Noon to assist them with militaristic force.
