There is no doubt about it Frontier of Shangri-La was one of the biggest anime surprises of 2023. In a genre plagued by weird harems and strong protagonists, this is an isekai by gamers for gamers, with a unique premise surrounding a bad video game expert (or “Kusoge”) on top of that.

The main video game of this show is a huge MMORPG with many different features and players in the Frontier of Shangri-La take full advantage of it. From wizards to monks, animal experts to player assassins, this fictional game is filled to the brim with skilled, talented, and powerful human players.

Since then, not only has Season 1 wrapped up, but Season 2 has also just begun, meaning a lot has happened in this unique gaming anime that deserves a proper update, with the biggest expense being Wezaemon the Tombguard's monumental hand-to-hand defeat Wolfgang. As a result, the entries for Orcelott, Oikatzo, Sunraku, Arthur, and Psyger-0 were updated, and two new entries were added for the newly introduced characters: The Professor and Psyger-100.

8 Professor (name unknown)

A wise connoisseur of the world of Shangri-La

He is the leader of the Library clan, and his main goal is to reveal the secrets of the world Frontier of Shangri-La. Sure, the Professor doesn't usually focus on fighting NPCs or other players, which means he's weaker than some of the other players in the show, but he's still respected by most people. Interestingly, his wife also plays the game and is apparently part of the Schwarzer Wolf guild.

7 Arcelot (Quon Amane)

6 Animalia (Maria Itsukushima)

A high level wizard

When the existence of Sunraku's snarling companion rabbit, Emul, became known throughout the Shangri-La Frontier community, they attracted the attention of a powerful player: the leader of the SF-Zoo Clan, a powerful wizard named Animalia. She's obsessed with watching and photographing monsters, so it makes sense that she's pretty strong.

Most of the characters in this anime fight with their fists or weapons, so it was nice to see a powerful wizard using magic in action. Animalia is definitely a force to be reckoned with considering she was able to take on Arthur the Pencildragon herself and even used a powerful magic spell filled with debuffs that almost defeated the infamous Player Slayer.

5 Oikatso (Kei Womi)

Experienced expert in fighting games

What happens when a fighting expert finds himself in the world of an MMORPG? That's the trick OikatsoSunraku's loyal friend who is a master of fist fighting and martial arts techniques. He managed to become a relatively good art Frontier of Shangri-La in a short period of time because he decided to choose a monk class that contributed to his physical strength, so he could take hits and hit back hard.

In just a few days, Oikatsu has become almost as good as Sunraku, who has spent much more time in the game, although he is several levels behind his friend. However, he managed to become surprisingly effective in battle in a short amount of time, and his immense physical strength was extremely important in the intense battle against Vezaemon the Tomb Guard, in which Oikatso partially took care of his mechanical steed.

4 Sunraku (Rakuro Hizutome)

Master of bad games

Since main characters with super powers are a common sight in shows like this, Sunraku feels like a breath of fresh air in comparison. He's a connoisseur of bad games, always looking to do things in the least traditional way, skipping entire tutorials and exploiting any bugs and glitches he can find. As strange as Sunraku's gameplay was, there's no denying that it ended up being very beneficial to him as he managed to unlock special scenarios and weapons that no one had found before. Depending on luck and intelligence, Sunraku gradually reaches the skill level of the strongest players in the game.

There are no players like him Shangri-La Border, and it shows because throughout the anime he managed to defeat stronger and stronger monsters, face players at levels far above him, and even collect and forge weapons made from the rarest of materials. Sunraku's prowess was on full display when he (along with Oikatso and Arthur Pensilgon) defeated the mighty Vezaemon Graveguard, one of the game's seven unique monsters.

3 Arthur Pensilgon (Towa Amane)

Smart player killer and tactician

Possibly the scariest player of all Frontier of Shangri-Laname Arthur Pennsylvania became infamous even before the launch of this MMORPG as it was known for killing players from many other games in the most brutal ways. Pensilgon is Sunraku and Oikatso's arch rival. Certainly, Arthur Pensilgon possesses immeasurable power, given that she is adept at using weapons such as swords or spears.

But she has become one of the best PKs in the game because she is a skilled tactician who knows how to use precise strategies and tricks to defeat opponents who are even stronger than her. This is why Wolfgang would never have been able to defeat Wesaemon if not for Pensilgon. Not only did she properly help her friends prepare for a long and difficult battle, but her efficient item management was also a key element in it. She may have rebooted her entire character to turn over a new leaf, but it's clear that she'll continue to use her wits and strength wherever she and her new clan go.

2 Psyger-100 (Momo Saiga)

The legendary leader of Schwarzer Wolff

Even though she hasn't had a chance to show her full power yet, it's obvious Psyger-100 (real name Momo Saiga) is an extremely powerful and effective player Frontier of Shangri-La. After all, she is the respected leader of the Schwarzer Wolf, a guild tasked with killing Lycagon of the Night Raid and the other seven colossi.

Based on her appearance and interactions with other players, it appears that Psyger-100 has been playing the game for a very long time, and she even had a past history with Arthur Pensilgon. Due to their immense power and high level, Psyger-100 and her entire guild are notorious among players Frontier of Shangri-La.

1 Psyger-0 (Ray Saiga)

Ultimate firepower in the game

• First appearance: Episode 1

Psycher-0 perfectly shows how creative and clever this show is. Inside Frontier of Shangri-Lashe is a fearsome knight who wields a giant sword and is covered from head to toe in legendary armor. She achieved the highest amount of firepower in the entire game, earning her the impressive title “Maximum Firepower.” And even strong players like Arthur Pensilgon are afraid to face Psyger-0.

However, outside the game Ray Saiga a shy and innocent girl who is in love with Sunraku. She started playing Shangri-La Frontier because she knew her love would make it to the popular game one day, which he eventually did. Psyger-0 is the strongest player in the game because she waited so long and fought back. Her existence is a lesson in how important patience can be in a video game. Fortunately, viewers got to see some of Psyger-0's amazing high-level abilities, which include her fearsome black and gold reverse armor, her Friend Warp ability, and her Chaos Void skill. Thanks to her powerful arsenal, she managed to defeat Ashur-Kai and Arthur Pensilgon without much trouble.
