The strongest Digimon TCG cards released in 2024

2024 was an incredible year for the Digimon card game. With a variety of collectible and competitive packs released throughout the year, the game is set to finally merge with the Japanese version in 2025. Bandai printed some of the best cards this year, including some we'd like to see stick around in 2024.

Common cards like Ukkomon have become staples in almost any deck with room for a couple more newcomers, while X Antibody cards have continued their dominance, with some even earning spots in Limited and Restricted lists. It's been one of the best years for fans of the Digimon card game.

Shoto Kazama

Make everything a blocker

With the release of the Digimon Liberator webcomic, fans were introduced to some incredible new Digimon (Pteromon and Shoemon), but the main character, Shoto Kazama, turned meta decks and control decks into an absolute menace.

The Shoto effect given by one of your blocker Digimon isn't limited to Liberator-type Digimon, creating huge towers like Mother D-Reaper and an inescapable wall that you'll struggle to climb. With MedievalGallantmon coming in early 2025, this green tamer will continue its reign in the following sets.

Scrambled

Save your stacks

The Scramble cards found in a special limited set have changed the game for the better. These Option cards gave decks that rely on a single stack to have some sort of recursion mechanism. You can play the beginner for free, combined with the ability to build your deck with the card you need for your next turn.

There have been many cards similar to Scrambles, such as Memory Boosts and Training cards, but they are so useful that it will be a while before we see a replacement.

Imperialdramon: ACE paladin mode

Best counter against purple

Most ACE cards are very specific to their archetype or Digimon line, but with Imperialdramon having three different colors, this card is one of the most generic level seven ACEs any deck can use.

If you've played the Digimon card game before, you know how powerful the color purple is. These decks, which usually consist of powerful draw and reset mechanisms, can quickly reach a win state and wipe out your boards. With a Paladin mode effect that dumps all of their trash into the bottom deck, you'll put those pesky decks away a lot.

The fan-favorite purple dog from the web novel Digimon Seekers has been a popular deck since its release in BT17 Secret Crisis. He is fast and can perform a one-turn kill, or OTK, on ​​turn two. With more and more support released since its debut, the deck has become even more consistent, making it one of the best decks of 2024.

The deck doesn't offer much flexibility outside of OTK, and without any archetype protection it can be a bit flimsy, but with the release of Scramble cards Fenriloogamon has become one of the best in the game.

Ancient Garurumon

Bounce All The Security

Hybrids have been a threat to the game since BT06 Double Diamond. In particular, Blue Hybrid was such a strong deck that Tamer Tommy Himi was forced to spend some time on Bandai's Banned and Restricted List.

With this version of AncientGarurumon, the new version of Blue Hybrid is even faster, and combined with Ukkomon cards, its search and draw engine has a power unmatched by other decks. The best thing about this card is that the card pool around it is very versatile, making every deck build different from the rest.

Paildramon

Stingmon and Exvimon! Jogress!

Imperialdramon has been one of the best decks in the meta and competitive circuit for quite some time. It's fast, aggressive, and with powerful tamer cards like Davis and Ken, the deck is capable of overwhelming anyone it faces. Paildramon and its debut Keyword Partition offered the deck a layer of defense beyond the signature Jamming.

With Paildramon, you can make an aggressive push for damage, freezing your opponent's board. Combined with Imperialdramon from the set, Paildramon is the essence of the deck.

Ukkamon

The nightmare of many

Love it or hate it, this card is one of the most important of the year. The release of Ukkomon greatly improved the game in every deck that had room for newcomers and had stability issues. This Ukkomon combined with its promo counterpart should have been included in most aggressive decks.

Thankfully, the promo ended up being limited to one copy per deck to prevent a lot of unfair loops, but we Fenriloogamon players still have the film's antagonist to help us find cards.

Apocalypse

As English players, we haven't been able to experience the full power of Apocalymon since its release. After a long reign as a Japanese meta meta company, Bandai decided to limit the postcard to one copy a week after its Western release.

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​some few people have had it or not, it's been a while since I've seen it. You can still play the card, albeit with less consistency, but if you're looking for a cheeky way to beat your opponent, Apocalymon is the card you're looking for.

Magnamon (Antibody X)

A massive golden wall

A mighty wall. A powerful royal knight. This Magnamon was the first to be released as a tricolor card. This was very problematic as it gave the deck access to a variety of removal and defense option cards, while the deck was already a massive wall for players to climb over.

Other card games such as Yu-Gi-Oh! there are many cards that aren't affected by the effects of other cards, but Digimon didn't have this effect until Magnamon, changing the entire landscape of the game for the rest of the year.
