Basic Pokemon are important to any Pokemon TCG Pocket strategy. At the start of each match, you're guaranteed to have at least one basic Pokemon in your hand to help you out. While some foundations are necessary to achieve stronger evolutions, others can stand on their own.

Pokemon TCG Pocket: 8 tips to get the best cards
Want to collect the perfect cards to build your deck? Check out these tips to protect the cards you need.
These cards are incredibly useful as many of them can be used to launch an attack as quickly as possible. In a game where whoever strikes first can have an immediate advantage, it's good to know which common Pokemon will put forth the most effort to score points.
10
Likitung
Just keep hitting
Lickitung is a strong basic Pokemon as it can knock out any Pokemon with one hit. Like Misty, this card is a no limit coin toss. This means you don't stop flipping until you hit the tail.
Of course, this also means that the ceiling for how much damage you can deal is through the roof. At 60 damage per head, four is all you need to take out the most powerful Pokemon in the game. However, without base damage, you also run the risk of doing nothing.
9
Jinx
Punish energy hoarders
Believe it or not, Jinx has the potential to be one of the strongest base Pokemon in Pokemon TCG Pocket. This is because the damage dealt by this card depends on the amount of energy your opponent has on their Pokemon, plus 30 for base damage.

Pokemon Pocket: The 8 Best Pokemon Psychic Cards
Mind over matter
With a retreat cost of one and a psychic cast of only two energy, this move can be quickly set up if your opponent tries to use energy acceleration. So if they end up overshooting or getting too many good coin flips on Moltres or Misty, that greed will prove their undoing.
8
Pinsir
Basic Pokemon Slayer
Pinsir follows the same rules as Marowak ex. You get two coin flips and each time it does a lot of damage. Pinsir is such a good grass Pokemon because you don't need to evolve it to get this effect.
For two energy, Double Horn can deal up to 100 damage. This will knock out most common Pokemon that don't have the HP of the former card. This card also has 90 HP and can use Erika and Butterfree for extra healing.
7
Kangaskhan
Old Two
Kangaskhan is a strong simple pokemon with a strong hit. While technically weaker than Pinsir, it has more HP and only requires one energy to start hitting. Dizzy Punch allows you to flip two coins and for each head you deal 30 damage.

Pokemon Pocket: The 8 Best Colorless Pokemon Cards
Who needs type anyway.
This can do a maximum of 60 damage and, with a few lucky flips, gives you an early game lead. Kangaskhan is also colorless, so it can be splashed into any deck you want to try to run it in.
6
Magmar
Stoke The Flames
Magmar deals 50 damage for two energy, which is a nightmare for grass types, and due to its weakness, it will handle most steel types in one hit. However, what makes Magmar such an aggressive fire type is that it is compatible with Blaine.
This deals Magmar 30 extra damage, and is the only Simple Pokemon that can take advantage of this effect without having to evolve first. Even without using Blaine, Magmar is capable of sending many other simple Pokemon to the discard pile before they reach their final form.
5
Farfetch'd
A consistent hitter
Many aggressive decks use Farfetch'd because it's a colorless Pokemon that can coexist with any energy type. Although it may only have one turn, Leek Slap does 40 damage for just one energy, which is the most damage you can do for such a low and flexible cost.

Pokemon Pocket: Every Fan Rating
The perfect support cards can really change the way your deck plays. We look at every fan card in the game and rate them.
This is why Farfetch'd is a fantastic card to see in your starting hand, as it immediately allows you to start dealing 40 damage to your opponent once you get some energy on it.
4
Hitmanly
Hit the bench early
Hitmonlee is a strong basic Pokemon because it's easy to set up and start attacking. All it takes to start using Stretch Kick is one energy. So if you have it in your starting hand and immediately go to the Active slot, your opponent's bench will be in trouble right away.
There are so many powerful Pokemon that start with 60 HP base forms. These are the ones your opponent wants to keep safe. However, if they can't Evolve in time, Hitmonlee can take out many of them in just two hits, thus preventing them from getting the full power of their board.
3
Zapdos Ex
The power of thunder
Most Pokemon in the game only have one move. This makes the game simple. However, Zapdos ex has two moves it can use. Peck can deal 20 damage for just one energy early in the game, while Thundering Hurricane can deal up to 200 damage for three.

Pokemon Pocket: Every former Pokemon ranked
Here are the best Pokemon ex cards in Pokemon TCG Pocket.
This gives Zapdos ex a lot of options, whether you open it in hand or see it later in the game. However, these picks make it a great choice for a solo deck focused on charging just one Pokemon for quick damage.
2
Articuno Ex
Freeze your opponent
Articuno is a reliable Pokemon to have on your bench in the early game. This is because he has strong moves that can hit the opponent early and weaken the bench. Misty makes this process easier if luck is on your side, as attacks are available on the first turn.
This is why Articuno ex is usually the best choice for a bird turbo deck, as it can close games very quickly, unlike other birds that need to get one energy at a time to start scoring points.
1
Mewtwo Ex
Two powerful options
Mewtwo ex has 150 HP, making it a powerful Pokemon in your early game active slot. At two energy, he can go 50 with Psychic Sphere. At full power it can deal a devastating 150 damage with Psydrive.
Even without Gardevoir providing energy acceleration, you can always save Mewtwo's most powerful attack if you need one of your opponent's best Pokemon to be entered cleanly. This is why Mewtwo ex is one of the strongest common Pokemon in the game.
