The Pokemon Franchise introduces a new kind of Poke Ball

SPOILERS for the anime Pokemon Horizons.In the last episode Pokemon Horizons In the Japan broadcast, Gibeon was shown using the new Poke Ball in a flashback. This moment occurs in episode 75 Pokemon Horizons, with the title translated as “The future in trust, the brightness of this world”. The episode tells the story of the Explorers and features Liko's impressive Pokemon catch, but the Poke Ball is particularly interesting. This is the Poke Ball that Gibeon uses to place his special white Zygarde.

Will this mysterious Poke Ball matter?

Fans have been curious about the appearance of the Poke Ball, which has something of a steampunk-like design. The usual round ball button has been replaced by a gear with a white and brown color scheme accented with green and red accents. When showing in Pokemon Horizons episode's Poke Ball already contains Zygarde, so it's unclear if the Poke Ball has any special purpose or if it's just a cosmetic difference.

Pokemon fans are already speculating about what the purpose of this new Poke Ball might be, and if it will even matter in the end. Many took the opportunity to reminisce about the forgotten GS Ball of the golden and silver ages Pokemon anime. The GS Ball was originally supposed to be hosted by Celebi, which would have been a major plot point, but that idea was scrapped and Celebi was relegated to the fourth Pokemon movie instead. As a result, GS Ball was quietly left behind and purposefully left out of the plot, but clearly not everyone Pokemon fans forgot about it, just like the show's developers hoped.

At the time this episode aired in Japan, it was broadcast in English Pokemon Horizons was only up to episode 45. Fans shouldn't expect to see a translated version of this episode for quite some time. Perhaps the purpose of this Poke Ball will be revealed by then. Pokéfans will have to wait and see.
