PC games tend to offer a lot more variety and versatility than console games. Many indie games run on PC only, you can install mods to customize your experience and you can also customize the settings to suit your preferences. Looking ahead to 2025, there are quite a few games waiting to take advantage of this.

2025 is full of games, from horror to strategy to RPG. Here's what our editors are most looking forward to, so you can add them to your most anticipated lists.
darkwebStreamer
Ben Sledge, Features Editor
I have my eyes on darkwebStreamer. The procedurally generated indie horror game only has a Steam release date of “coming soon,” but I'm crossing my fingers we'll see it in 2025. Set in the web of the 90s, the game lets you play as an occult streamer trying to make a living in the wettest corners of the world wide web.
The only problem is, if you don't become the biggest streamer in the world, you will die. With creepy rituals, creepy NPCs, and an increasingly haunted apartment, I fully expect to be squirming in my seat when darkwebStreamer joins my Steam library, hopefully sometime next year.

I don't play much PC games, I prefer consoles for almost everything, so when I think of PC games I'm looking forward to in 2025, I think PC-only indie games. This brings me to Earthblade, which has so far only been announced for Steam.
Next up, Celeste from Extremely OK Games, who tend to make Extremely Much Better Than OK games, should channel that same passion for discovery, but with a bigger action hook. We haven't heard anything about the game since it was unveiled in 2021 and shown off at The Game Awards in 2022, except for a statement pushing it back from 2024 to 2025. I bet the wait is worth it.
School of Demons

I have always been drawn to strategy games. Final Fantasy Tactics, Into The Breach, you got the idea. I like to look at all angles and really think about how I'm going to survive. Stick this in a horror-ridden university setting and I'm sold.
Demonschool has been a long time coming to launch and I'm pretty sure 2025 is the year I'll finally be able to get it. It has a great, crisp art style, and the tactical elements are only as strong as the relationships you build with the characters. Because fighting horrible demons is only half the battle when you still have to attend school.

Firaxis games
When I think of PC games, I think of Civilization. I've been looking forward to the latest iteration in the series and have poured hundreds of hours between Civilization 5 and Civilization 6. Both games have stood the test of time, as have the civilizations you create.
Civilization is going to test the formula, as new games in the series usually do, by making changes to civilization – similar to the format in Humankind. I'm intrigued by the potential of this and also a bit cautious about it. However, if Firaxis has proven anything over the years, it's that it knows how to make a good Civilization game. I think the new formula is in good hands.

Games on the playground
I remember the good ol' days of Fable 3, renting out slums to make millions and showing my evil brother that being a benevolent ruler is possible. The idea of returning to the quirky world of Fable is exciting to say the least, and from what little we've seen, we're in for a good time.
Despite the memes and outrage that the heroine isn't gorgeous, I can't wait to see more. The glamorous fantasy is overdone and the brutal Witcher-esque environments are too much for me. Fable walks the middle line with the perfect mix of magic and bugs to experiment with, and I'm ready to unleash chaos on Albion once again.

As I grew to love bagels, I began to keep an eye out for particularly promising ones. From Dead Cells to Risk of Rain 2, there was no shortage of phenomenal indie titles that kept me dying and entertained. And you know what sounds pretty damn promising to me next year? 33 Immortals.
You and up to 32 other players take part in a co-op Roguelike multiplayer game where you all try to get out of some sort of hell, fighting wave after wave, boss after boss, challenge after challenge. The fact that your squad of refugees can be so massive is very appealing to me. I can't wait to see what shenanigans I can get up to Another 32 people all trying to achieve the same goal that has been true to roguelikes for years: to survive.

Firaxis games
Civ 7 is the most anticipated game of 2025, period, not just on PC. February is going to be a busy month, but for me the decision of which choice to make from the triple buffet was written in the stars when I first released New Game on Civilization 2.
I'm also previewing Might And Magic: Olden Era, which is due to enter Early Access sometime in the middle of the year. A return to form for Heroes of Might and Magic would be welcome, but given how far the series has fallen, the game will have to completely blow me away to get a redemption arc.

Let's be honest: shooting Nazis never gets old, and the Sniper Elite series gets it. With the return of the iconic X-ray kill camera in Sniper Elite: Resistance, who could resist watching a Nazi's femur break in beautiful slow motion? …Again?
With the promise of smarter enemies, next-gen visuals, and ballistics seemingly so accurate they could teach physics with equal success, I'm cautiously optimistic that Resistance will live up to the hype. Throw in 16-player competitive multiplayer and expanded accessibility, and by 2025 I'll be lining up (hopefully decent) shots and enjoying every blast. Resistance? Rather I-can't-resist-it.

Ever since I first played Vice Undercover at Gamescom, I've been anxiously awaiting its full release. Set in an alternate 1980s, when the Internet already exists, you become an undercover agent trying to dig up the Cartel's digital secrets.
You will use and learn a retro operating system in the style of the 80s with old programs and databases that you will have to search for clues and solve various tasks. I found it completely addicting and I can't wait to play more.
