Metaphor: ReFantazio: Top 8 Magical Archetypes, Ranked
Here are the best magical archetypes in Metaphor: ReFantazio!
The simplest archetypes are those that focus on strength. Strength is an attribute that determines the damage dealt by physical attacks and is the basis for archetypes such as the Warrior, Baghetist, and Berserker. Most of the archetypes in Metaphor: ReFantazio are useful in a variety of situations, as the balance of the game is pretty good, with the exception of a few that stand head and shoulders above the rest.
10 Master of the sword

Swordmaster is the adept version of the Warrior line, and while it's useful for dealing damage to multiple enemies at once, it can actually be a bit of a negative as you progress through the game.
There are some enemies that parry certain types of moves, such as wind attacks or slashing attacks. If all the enemies in the battle are the same, this can be annoying, but it's easy to avoid. However, some battles will combine different types of creatures, so if you use Swordmaster, you can't use any of your attacks, even one enemies are repelled by slashes.
9 Warrior
The first in the Warrior line and the default Archetype for Strohl, Warrior is very useful in the early game, albeit a bit barebones. You get a weak arsenal of single-target physical attacks and a few multi-target ones.
It's better than Swordmaster in that regard, as even though Swordmaster's skills are stronger, they're all multi-target attacks, so Warrior is still the more versatile option until you unlock the elite version of the line .
8 a brawler
Originating from the tough-talking Paripus Catherine, this initial Archetype is very strong in the early game. It does bludgeoning damage, which is different from bludgeoning damage, and the first major dungeon has a lot of enemies that are weak to damage.

Also, all attacks use health as a resource instead of mana. While this makes you more prone to death as you drain health and also get attacked by enemies, for most of the game it far away it's easier to regenerate health than it is to regenerate mana, so overall it's a worthwhile gamble.
7 Bagettist

The Pugilist is a skilled version of the Brawler that improves upon her by updating her core kit and focusing on critical hits.
You also gain some passives that provide some protection, such as stopping all critical hits on you. So, even though this lane is focused on offense, you still get some defensive advantages to help keep you alive.
6 Destroyer
Requirements for unlocking |
|

|
The Destroyer is an upgraded version of the Berserker Archetype, and while it's by no means terrible, we don't think it's as obviously effective as its original form.
With Berserk, you gain access to a variety of powerful hit-based skills. Destroyer focuses on more elemental damage with Wind and Light, as well as getting buffs for being in the front row. While you can certainly inherit some other skills to balance out the on-hit damage from upgrading to the Destroyer, we think it still falls short of the original for the reasons you'd want to use it in first of all.
5 Martial artist
Requirements for unlocking |
|

The Elite Archetype in the Brawler line, this is truly the best version of this Archetype. The main disadvantage of the Brawler type is that you sacrifice health to deal a lot of damage, leaving you open to a deadly counter attack.

That's a lot of metal hearts
But with a warmaster, you get access to healing spells that also heal statuses, as well as an incredible passive that turns a killing blow on an ally into one that restores full HP (once per battle, of course). If you're interested in the brawler archetype, you should aim for a martial artist.
4 Berserk
You get the Berserker Archetype from Basilio, the last party member you unlock in the game. Despite being a late addition to your arsenal, Berserk is still desirable.
With a wide range of devastating strikes, Berserk is an excellent damage dealer who is still able to stay on the frontlines as a Warrior. If you don't want to go with the risk-reward style of Brawler, another hit-based line, then Berserker is the perfect alternative.
3 Samurai

|
The Samurai is the last Archetype in the Warrior lineage and is the ultimate embodiment of the obedient warrior that Stroll is. When this is unlocked, you gain access to powerful slash attacks, including unique moves such as an electric slash that hits all enemies, as well as powerful passives such as HP recovery every turn.
You also gain powerful fusion skills, including the Scarlet Moon Sword Art, which deals heavy damage to all enemies and can even cast a spell. If you don't want to go with the Royal Archetype of this line, which needs some grinding, then the Samurai is the perfect ending to the Warrior line.
2 Royal warrior

The Royal Class of Archetypes are the secret, ultimate Archetypes of each party member's standard kind. For Stroll, it's a Royal Warrior. This means that only Stroll can use it, unlike samurai or elite archetypes, but it's still very powerful.
You gain access to some of the previous skills, such as the Crimson Moon Sword Art, as well as some extremely useful new passive abilities, such as Noble Warrior Soul, which means that when you kill an enemy with a slashing attack (many of which you'll have access to royal warrior), you will not lose the turn icon.
1 Royal Berserker

Much like the warrior royal for Stroll, the royal berserker is the perfect archetype for Basilio and is incredibly powerful. Taking what works and is strong in Berserker, the royal equivalent turns it up to 11.
You gain powerful passive skills that allow you to compensate for the move icon when dealing critical hits, as well as increasing your HP and dealing damage. Combining these passives with the strong synthesis skills you gain access to and the ability to debuff enemies, Royal Berserker is arguably the best power-based archetype in the game—if you're willing to put in the work to get it.
