Despite the number of games like roguelikes, there are few that allow players to play cooperatively online. Ravenhowever, it has online co-op, which perhaps makes the game more fun, although players can also enjoy playing the single player game.

Ravenswatch The themes of the world and the game characters are heavily related to folk heroes and old legends, giving the game a distinctive visual flair. With its recent 1.0 release marking the end of its Early Access run, there's never been a better time to dive into this challenging rogue-like action game.

Updated October 1, 2024 by Harry Ted Sprinkles: Developed by Passtech Games (the team behind the unique action roguelike, Curse Of The Dead Gods), Ravenswatch recently left Early Access and entered 1.0 with a major update that added a new character to the game. This, along with the game's additional talents and balance changes, drastically changed the game's balance. With nine playable characters now available and each run lasting over an hour, it's useful to know what each character is capable of.

9 Piper

A ranged character with low damage

Ravenswatch - Ravenswatch character sheet

Piper is one of the weakest characters in the Raventhough he's arguably more useful in multiplayer where he has a team that can draw enemies away from him. Chrysola's damage output is relatively low compared to other characters. However, he also has a ranged attack.

Because of this, Pied Piper is one of the safest characters to play Ravensince he does not need to approach enemies. While he's a great starter pick, Crysol remains one of the weakest characters despite having plenty of utility in his toolbox.

8 Geppetto

Quirky character with a slow start

Ravenswatch - Geppetto Character Profile

Geppetto is an interesting character with a unique playstyle as his damage relies on the various auto-attack dummies he can create with his trait. However, as a result, Geppetto's early game damage is somewhat difficult.

This makes Geppetto a difficult character to get off the ground, although he transitions relatively well into the late game and can generally provide great support to his teammates. Geppetto's dummies are particularly useful as they can block projectiles and draw aggro, allowing Geppetto to easily revive team members in online co-op while his dummies distract enemies.

7 Beowulf

A tanky character who can hold his own

Ravenswatch - Beowulf Character Sheet

Beowulf it's a strong and sharp character that can hold its own in many encounters. His Wyrm empowered abilities are great at breaking up large groups, and his shield helps protect him from projectiles and enemy attacks. Additionally, Beowulf's spin attack allows him to both initiate enemies and retreat from combat.

Unfortunately, Beowulf's close-range attacks and difficult-to-maneuver spin attacks put him in great danger. Despite this, it can be argued that Beowulf has access to some of the more powerful talents in the game, making him a relatively strong character.

6 Melusina

A powerful character with an amazing playstyle

Ravenswatch - Melusine Character Profile

Melusina takes some getting used to as she can't attack and move at the same time. However, once players get used to switching between stances, Melusine can be extremely powerful. Fortunately, Melusina can maneuver around the battlefield quite easily, allowing her to weave between enemies and keep herself out of harm's way.

Melusina is arguably more powerful when played in online co-op, as she can more easily attack enemies from afar while her team attracts their attention. While Melusina doesn't have as many AOE capabilities as other characters, her water bomb is capable of dealing massive damage over a large area.

5 Sun Wukong

A high-risk, high-reward character

Ravenswatch - Sun Wukong Character Profile

Ukun is one of the new additions to Ravenand has a risk-reward style of play that won't be for everyone. Ukun's trait allows him to use two unique stances, one that allows him to deal (and take) more damage, and another that allows him to regenerate health.

As a result, Wukun can be particularly difficult for beginners to master, as he needs to be in his Yang stance to deal damage, but this also leaves him vulnerable to being one-shotted, or at the very least, dealing massive amounts of damage. However, in such a vulnerable state, Ukun's potential damage is immense. Mastering the balance between both stances is essential to Ukun's success, but mastering his defensive ability – a powerful parry – is even more important. However, when players master this hero, it can become extremely powerful.

4 Carmilla

A mobile hero with a risky toolkit

Ravenswatch - Carmilla Character Profile

This is the latest addition to the Raven is a stylish and ridiculously mobile hero with a risk-reward playstyle that's full of ups and downs. Carmilla is a lot to understand, especially at first glance, but her diverse abilities and talents make for a distinct play. Carmilla is centered around her Blood mechanic, a themed system based on her vampiric nature.

Carmilla uses Blood to get the most out of her abilities, some of which waste a valuable resource when used in certain ways. Blood can be obtained in several ways, but if the player runs out, they will be able to consume their health points instead. It's not ideal though, as HP isn't easy to get with her toolkit. Each of Carmilla's abilities is so versatile that it gives her great mobility, damage and AOE, making her a fluid character that is brilliantly talented. However, Carmilla's abilities can take some getting used to, and her Force makes her stand still, which is at odds with a mobile set of abilities.

3 Aladdin

A powerful support hero

Ravenswatch - Aladdin Character Profile

Aladdin modest damage is offset by his versatile ult and his ability to buff teammates. This makes Aladdin much more powerful in multiplayer, as he can give players a head start with his Wishes, which grant consumables to everyone in the party.

Aladdin's one drawback is his quirky special ability, which involves throwing a blade at enemies and being unable to attack as a result. This, however, enchants his blades and allows him to deal more damage, but it could be argued that Aladdin remains weak until he acquires the necessary talents. Despite these flaws, Aladdin's support utilities make him one of the most powerful heroes for big teams.

2 Scarlet

A power dealer with no control

Ravenswatch - Scarlet character sheet

Scarlet is one of the most powerful heroes in the game, with her only drawback being that players cannot control her form. By day, Scarlett is a glass cannon with lots of maneuverability and defenses that make her intangible, but by night she becomes a tank-like wolf with the ability to self-heal.

Relatives

The best short games lasting up to 5 hours

Some of the biggest titles offer over 100 hours of content, while others can be completed in half a day. Here are the best short games.

However, Scarlett's combo point system allows her to deal massive damage, although it does require some skill to pull off. When played correctly, Scarlett can deal more damage than many other characters Ravenespecially with the right talents.

1 Snow Queen

Powerful AOE and single target damage combo

Ravenswatch - Snow Queen Character Sheet

Snow Queen is currently one of the strongest characters in the game, as she excels against both single targets and large groups of enemies. Many of her abilities allow her to chill enemies, while others allow her to deal additional damage to enemies she chills.

With a strong close-range AOE that allows the Snow Queen to keep enemies away from her, and great agility gained from her defense ability (which allows her to skate around the map), the Snow Queen is a nimble character with extreme amounts of health and damage. Combined with her ultimate abilities (one that focuses on a single target and one that focuses on a massive AOE), the Snow Queen is arguably the strongest character currently available in Raven.
