Assassin's Creed Shadows can delay the inevitable
With a crowded February launch and Ubisoft's dated style, the next few months of tweaking may not save Shadows from itself.
As first spotted on Reddit, the details of the first Shadows “Battle Pass” have been revealed. These details include images of several unlockable outfits, mounts and weapons. Not only that, but the leaks also give us our first look at what Ubisoft is calling the Animus Hub, a larger app that will be home to future AC installments. Think: Call of Duty HQ, but not Assassin's Creed.
There is a combat pass for everything
From this available information, it appears that Yasuke will be the main controllable character in the center. It is not yet clear if Naoe, the game's other main character, is selectable.
Also, as it stands, the first Battle Pass will be completely free to play. It's also unclear whether future subscriptions will have a paid element. When Shadows was shelved a few weeks ago, Ubisoft made some major changes, including removing Early Access and making the game's first planned expansion free. A free early Battle Pass will accompany these initiatives.
Among the unlockable items are some weapons called the “Cereluean Nexus” as well as the aforementioned mount, as well as some currency. This first playthrough is called Eye In The Dark, and according to Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson, the next playthroughs will be called The Hidden Network, The Last Ronin, and In The Shadows, respectively.
It's not much, but it gives us some idea of what Ubisoft has in mind for the future of the AC series. As rumored in the past, 10 Assassin's Creed games are slated to be released in the next 5 years, all of which are believed to be part of this Animus Hub launch program. This would mean that future quasi-battle passes could soon be part of the equation, although only time will tell what exactly Ubisoft has in store for gamers.
