Star Trek is usually about valiant explorers and handsome captains venturing off into space to meet and canoodle with alien life. Everyone’s heard of Picard or Janeway and their officers, but Lower Decks takes a different tack. Instead of the high-ranking adventurers, Lower Decks takes a look at the usually nameless, thankless lower-ranked workers that keep the ships running.
Lower Decks is a radically different look at the Star Trek universe, and now it’s coming to the crossover-em-up trading card game UniVersus in the form of four Challenger decks. Take your pick from Beckett, Boimler, Tendi, or Rutherford, and find some of these exclusive alternate art cards when the Star Trek: Lower Decks Challenger Series launches on December 6.
You can find these alternate art cards in any of the included Collector booster packs, to help bling out your deck a bit more.
Beckett Mariner Challenger Series Deck
Speedy and aggressive, the Beckett Mariner deck cares a lot about milling, flipping cards, and messing around with your opponent’s foundations. Even better, if your opponent mills a foundation, Beckett’s attacks can pack more of a punch, helping you to break through blocks while also making it trickier for your opponent to overcome your own defense.
Playing into the mill and pseudo-milling theme is Mariner’s Bat’Leth, which, on top of just looking cool as anything, dumps cards off the top of your opponent’s deck right into their card pool to further mess with their resources.

Brad Boimler Challenger Series Deck
An ambitious wannabe captain, there’s nobody Boimler won’t suck up to in his quest for seniority. That sucking up goes as far as letting your opponents draw extra cards, albeit with the punishment of committing a foundation if their card pool has too many attacks in it.
Foundations are a big theme across Boimler’s deck, with cards like Replicator Enthusiast letting you and your opponent both build a foundation – setting them up for hitting them with a big Inconvenient Duplication once they have enough of them.

D’Vana Tendi Challenger Series Deck
Decks built around regaining health aren’t quite as common in UniVersus as they are in other TCGs, but D’Vana Tendi, the Orion science officer, wants you to spend health for profit, only to gain it all back. With Eager Science Officer, you can reduce the speed and add stuns to attacks by paying health, before making checks easier when you gain it back.
If you’d rather focus on the healthgain more directly, Mistress of the Winter Constellations rewards having lots of rivals and non-Throw attacks, potentially sapping your opponent of all their health in just a few attacks.

Sam Rutherford Challenger Series Deck
As a cyborg, Rutherford can tweak his implants to adjust his behaviour, personality, and memories, which makes his card’s ability to swap around speed and damage particularly on-brand and very, very interesting.
The deck includes lots of cards that can buff either speed or damage, giving you a much swingier attack when Sam finally swaps the two. Alternatively, you could go for the Devron Racer character instead and lean into Tech attacks, boosting their speed and forcing your opponent to commit their foundations.
