Silksong's development makes the case for a full launch

More than 2,000 days have passed since the announcement Hollow Knight: Silksongand yet the game is still nowhere to be found. Over the past few years, Hollow knight fans hoped developer Team Cherry release a new trailer for the game at one of the many annual gaming presentations. But every State of Play, Nintendo Direct, and Xbox Partner Preview goes by without even a mention Hollow Knight: Silksongthis hope grows thinner and thinner. As a result, the lack of development updates on Hollow knight the sequel has achieved meme status. Images Half Knight t characters in clown makeup are posted on social media almost every time there is a screening.

It's important to recognize that Team Cherry is not a major AAA developer. The studio is owned and operated by a team of three, so it's easy to see why Hollow Knight: SilksongDevelopment is taking longer than some might expect, especially considering the game is supposed to be bigger than its predecessor. Even more, Silk song it's been in the works for about five years, which is a much longer production cycle than most indie games. Considering how long fans have had to wait for its release, Team Cherry should at least make up for their patience by delivering a complete package at launch.

Why the chances of Hollow Knight: Silksong appearing at The Game Awards 2024 are low, but not zero

The wait for Hollow Knight: Silksong has become infamous, and the chances of the title appearing at The Game Awards are slim.

Team Cherry must ensure that Hollow Knight: Silksong launches in full condition

A lot of content was removed from the first Hollow Knight game during development

As great as the original game was, a significant amount of content was cut Hollow knight before its release. For example, at one stage of development, the game was going to feature a dragonfly enemy, but it was eventually scrapped. Some of the unused sprites and animations can actually be found inside Hollow knightfiles. Although the dragonfly never made it into the final build of the game, the character appears to be used in Hollow Knight: Silksong instead, as it appeared briefly in the reveal trailer for the long-awaited sequel.

Dragonfly aside, Team Cherry ditched a lot of other features Hollow knightincluding the abilities to dash backwards, float on water, and even enter NPC dreams. Several areas, including the Forest of Bones and Snail Village, as well as enemies such as ants and giant spiders, have also been removed from the game, along with many spells, characters, charms, and items. According to the developers at Team Cherry, most of these ideas were abandoned during production, either because they didn't fit their vision for the game or because they simply didn't have enough time to implement them.

Hollow Knight received several free DLCs upon release

Luckily, Team Cherry released four free post-launch DLCs Hollow knight which added some important content that didn't make it into version 1.0 of the famous Metroidvania. Among them new boss fights, quest lines, animations and endings, among other things. The latest DLC titled God's masterreleased on August 23, 2018, about a year and a half later Hollow knightEdition of 2017, and that basically marked the end of game development, since team cherry switched to Hollow Knight: Silksong in 2019.

Hollow Knight: Silksong will hopefully launch without leaving great ideas on the cutting room floor

Although it would be great if Silk song received the same post-launch support as its predecessor, it would have been even better if the game launched in as complete a state as possible. Lots of great ideas in the original Hollow knight were left on the bench floor and if implemented properly could have made the game even better. Hopefully, the fact that the Cherry team is taking their time Hollow Knight: SilksongThe development is a sign that the studio wants to cram as much content into the game as possible without compromising its quality.
