Atlus released a new patch for Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeanceintroducing new demon navigators, sub quest, elite virtual trainers and more. This update is for Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance is free and available now on all consoles and PC.

Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance is an extended version of the original Shin Megami Tensei 5. The first version of the game was released in 2021 exclusively for the Switch, at that time Revenge launched in 2024 with releases on all other major platforms as well. Liberation Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance introduced new content such as additional areas, demons, visual enhancements and a brand new story path called Canon of Vengeance, adding over 80 hours of gameplay content. This unique storyline follows the same plot as the original but has notable changes starting from the middle of the story and ending at the end.

Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance just received update 1.03 which is now available on all platforms. The patch adds six new navigator demons chosen by community vote, including Mara, Idun, Mothman, Fionn Mac Camhaill, Hell Biker, and Cleopatra. Demon navigators accompany the rogues on the world map, hunting for items and offering quest hints, but they do not participate in battles.

The update also introduces a new sub-quest called “Guardian of the Light”, which can be accepted by talking to Goku in the Taito area. Completion is rewarded by unlocking a new demon, Marissa, to fuse with. This patch also adds Elite Virtual Trainers, but their activation requires certain sub-quests not listed in the patch notes. Virtual training in Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance includes challenges against previous incarnations of bosses, suggesting that Elite Virtual Trainers may be the most difficult challenges.


Finally, the update also fixes various bugs, including text issues, graphics glitches, and even changes to the English voice acting. As expected, this update only applies to the enhanced version of the JRPG, not the original SMT5 release that gives even more reasons to play Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance over the original version.

Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance was one of Atlus' JRPG releases in 2024. The developer launched Persona 3 reboot at the beginning of the year and published Vanillaware's The lord of the unicorn in March. In June Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance hit the shelves, and most recently the new IP Studio Zero Metaphor: ReFantazio received recognition from the public and critics. Although the sales figures for these JRPGs are more modest than the mainstream games, they have broken several records for Atlus. Metaphor: ReFantazio 1 million units were sold at launch, surpassing Persona 3 reboota record of 1 million units sold in three days.

    • Mara, Idun, Mothman, Fionn mac Cumhaill, Hell Biker and Cleopatra were added.
    • These demons will appear at certain points in Da'ath and can accompany you as Demon Navigators when spoken to.
      • Some Demon Navigators can only be unlocked by completing certain subquests.

  • Added the Keeper of the Light subquest.
    • Da'at: You can accept the subquest by talking to Goku in the Taito area.

  • Added a brand new demon Marisi from the Kishin race.
    • Marici can be recruited and unlocked for fusion by completing “The Guardian of Light” subquest.

  • “Elite Virtual Trainers” have been added.
    • After completing certain sub-quests, you can take on a series of brutal battles against the powerful demons that appeared in those sub-quests by talking to the female researcher in the terminal room in the Tokyo Diet building.
