Stewart made his debut in X-Men (2000) as Professor X, founder X-Men. Since then, he has been a big part of the franchise, portraying a teacher who advocates for mutant rights. The powerful character is known for his mind control, psychic and telepathic abilities. Stewart reprized the role in several films, including X2: X-Men United (2003), X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), X-Men: Origins: Wolverine (2009), Wolverine (2013), X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), Logan (2017) and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022). Both Stewart and Jackman have announced their retirement X-Men roles in 2017. Stewart said his character's death in the Logan this would be the last time fans would see him as a mutant. However, both changed their minds and returned to the big screen, Stewart in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness and Jackman in Deadpool and Wolverine. Stewart even teased that he might appear in Deadpool 3. Stewart died several times in X-Men franchise, but it can always be brought back because Marvel is the Multiverse. Professor X is probably dead in one universe, but alive in his alternate universes. Also, given Stewart's character's history of coming back from the dead many times, it wouldn't be surprising to see him back on the big screen. In fact, some were waiting for his return and were disappointed that he wasn't the last Deadpool the movie.
The presence of Professor X in Avengers: Secret Wars makes sense because he and Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) have a notable interaction in Marvel Comics. Dr. Doom is expected to join Avengers: Judgment Day and Avengers: Secret Wars. Dominant and controlling, Doctor Doom has a different approach compared to Professor X when it comes to dealing with mutants, which can cause conflict between the two.
