Key conclusions

  • Anime Lockdown Zone: Level X is getting a second season announcement after a successful first run.
  • The original version began as a web novel in 2017 before being adapted into a manga and anime.
  • Lockdown Zone: Level X is a “light anime”, cheaper to produce and probably part of a growing trend.

Light anime Block Zone: Level X announced that it will have a second season. In addition to the sequel announcement, a new PV was released for the anime along with a free color manga. Lockdown Zone, Level X was originally a web novel published since 2017 and was adapted into an anime series for the first time this fall. The announcement of the release of the second season was made immediately after the release of the last episode of the first season.

The news originally came via Series X's account (formerly Twitter) along with a PV for the upcoming sequel. There is very little information on when the sequel will be released, but it is likely that it will continue to be produced by the same studio with the same cast. At the time of publication, PV and X's post contained all the information that had been officially released.

The journey Block Zone: Level X

From web novel to anime

If Lockdone Zone: Level X started in 2017 as a web-only novel published on a manga and light novel app called peep. The original story was written by Romi Oishi. This web novel was then adapted by meshe into a manga that ran from July 2020 to March 2022. In the same year, it also became a web cartoon adapted by taskey STUDIO. finally Block Zone: Level X was adapted into a light anime in 2024, which aired from September 6 to October 12 on CBS in Japan.

The manga is available in English from Denpa, who describes the plot as (via AniTrendz),

Ryoka wakes up to a barrage of text messages from her mother! In her panic and haste, Mom is clearly concerned for Ryoki's safety, but she doesn't really want her daughter to find out why. Her reasoning is that nothing can properly describe what is happening!

May be the end of the world! And there could be a huge new life form on the roof of their apartment building!

By October 24, the peep program will release 20 chapters of full-color manga for Block Zone: Level X in Japanese, all of which will be available for free. It's likely that they'll be translated in due course, perhaps by Denpa, and then made available in English as well to keep fans happy until more news comes out regarding the sequel.

What is “light anime?”

How is it different from regular anime

lockdown-series-level-x-sequel-pv

Block Zone: Level X is considered “light anime” which is not the same as a regular anime series. Light anime are often shorter and consist of fewer episodes than regular series. Light anime is also easier to animate, costs less money and takes less time to produce. Block Zone: Level X is currently the third light anime to be produced by AnimationID Studio. The previous two projects were Moriarty's Perfect Crime and Maarui Kanojo in Zannen na Koreshiwhich also came out in 2024.

Light anime may be something that has become more common in the anime industry. As the industry continues to grow and produce more and more anime, the ability to quickly create shorter and less expensive series is likely to become popular. Currently, it takes a lot of time and money to create an anime series, and not all shows are successful enough to generate the necessary income. If you like the series Block Zone: Level X could be successful, it could be the start of a new trend in the industry.
