Key conclusions
- Physical copies of Metaphor: ReFantazio reach players almost a week before the game's official launch.
- This means you may want to start avoiding social media as spoilers are likely to start making their way onto your timeline in the next few days.
- Metaphor: ReFantazio is the last to see physical copies released ahead of schedule, with FF7 Rebirth, Astro Bot, and Silent Hill 2 suffering the same fate.
Metaphor: ReFantazio is only days away, but recent reviews of the title have made the wait seem like an age. It's exciting to think that we'll soon be able to play a new game from the developers behind the modern Persona games, but you might want to start blocking your social media if you're a frequent user of the Persona/Metaphor community.
That's because it looks like physical copies of Metaphor: ReFantazio are making their way into players' hands, which means spoilers will soon be posted online whether we want to see them or not. While the case itself hasn't been shared, a Reddit user named Asberinfi shared a photo of the PS5 drive for Metaphor: ReFantazio along with the caption, “I'll leave it here.”
Thankfully, they don't seem to have shared any gameplay footage yet, but it's highly unlikely that Asberinfy is the only person who got their copy early. With the game so close to launch, it's also unlikely that Atlus will put in the effort and resources to address any leaks that occur, so it might be worth avoiding social media until you get your hands on it.
Metaphor: ReFantazio isn't the only game this year has had this happen to either. Big retailers can often accidentally send out games to players a little early, even though a whole week is like taking a cookie. PlayStation hit it twice in 2024, with physical copies of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Astro Bot coming out a little earlier, and Silent Hill fans also being able to get Silent Hill 2 Remake a week before the game's early access.
Fortunately, it didn't do any harm because all of these games are great, which is surprising for Silent Hill 2, and Metaphor: ReFantazio seems to be no exception. Reviews of the title surfaced earlier today, giving it a very impressive 94 score on OpenCritic at launch, matching the score of Persona 5. We also know that Metaphor will also be the same as Persona 5, so it's time to say goodbye to your friends and families while you work your way through this absolute unit video game.
