The death of Uncle Ben is a defining moment in the history of Peter Parker's character and has happened several times Spider-Man adaptation.

Spectacular Spider-Man is no exception, showing the eve of Ben Parker's fatal shooting. After competing in a wrestling competition as Spider-Man, Peter refuses to stop the robber, saying it's “not my problem”. The series is set in black and white, choosing not to show the shooting that took Ben's life, but the devastated reaction of Peter and Aunt May, with a haunting piano score and May crying. This is a series that captures the raw emotion of a powerful moment and deserves a spot on this list.

MTV Spider-Man: The New Animated Series was released in 2003 as a direct sequel to Sam Raimi Spider-Man. The series introduced the technique of shaded animation with a darker narrative and introduced Indira Diamonji, known as Indy, as a reporter who began dating Peter Parker.

However, Indy met a tragic end. After being tricked by the Gaines Twins, Spider-Man attacks Indy, believing her to be Roxanne Gaines, causing Indy to fall off the roof to her death. The most heartbreaking element of this death is that MJ and the city of New York lost faith in Spider-Man, seeing him as a villain. This causes Peter to hang up his suit and vow never to be Spider-Man again. This would lead to a huge storyline in season two. However, the show was canceled and this was never explored, meaning the show ended with a heartbreaking death and Spider-Man did not return as a superhero.

Mary Jane Watson – Spider-Man: The Animated Series

The most heartbreaking death in the animated series about Spider-Man

Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson have been an influential couple in comics for over half a century, and MJ has the strongest death in a cartoon Spider-Man series.

After Peter and MJ's wedding, MJ is kidnapped by a clone of Hydro-Man during their honeymoon. Peter goes to save MJ, but as he tries to save her, she begins to vaporize along with the Hydro-Man clone. This forces Peter to come to terms with the fact that his wife is a clone and dies before his eyes. Peter has little opportunity to grieve as he is forced to leave for the Secret Wars, but the events that follow from that moment on haunt him. Heartbreaking death of a beloved character and the most tragic of all Spider-Man animated series.
