Key conclusions
- Kubo's unique character designs make each Sternritter stand out in Bleach TYBW.
- The different appearances of Sternritter's characters, such as Asa Nodt's spiked mask, reflect their personalities and abilities.
- Fan-favorite Bambietta's facial expression and clothing make her a standout figure in Kubo's character designs.
Tite Kubo is a manga author who has long been admired for his character designs in the story Bleach. Kuba has a unique way of making each of his characters very different from one another, while still knowing exactly how to make them stand out with style and appeal. While Gotei 13 and Espada are prime examples of this, another group that showcases Kubo's expertise in character development is Sternritter.

Relatives
Bleach: Ichigo's most important fights, ranked
Bleach's Ichigo didn't leave any of these battles empty-handed, as they pushed him to grow as a Shinigami and as a human.
Although they are all Quincy and sworn to their king, Yhwach, each Sternritter is completely distinct in their personalities, abilities, and most importantly for this list, their looks. From minimalistic and mysterious to over-the-top and over-the-top, this is a Sternritter with some of the best designs ever Bleach. Before we get into that, it's worth noting that Sternritter's base forms will be covered, not their transformations.
8 Buzz-B
Buzz's cool mohawk and casual attire immediately set him apart
- First Appearance: TYBW Episode 3
As already proven with Grimmjow, Kubo sure knows how to make a punk rock character look the part, with Bazz-B being another prime example. Despite the rather minimalistic design, a closer look reveals a lot about Buzz's character. The fact that he chooses a completely open top emphasizes that he is not the most formal guy, hinting at his unpredictable and restless nature.
Clearly, the most striking aspect of Baz Bee's appearance is the hot pink mohawk that sits atop the top of his head. While this is supposed to look funny, for Buzz it just makes him even tougher and further demonstrates how little he cares about social norms or what people think of him in general.
7 Grammy Tumo
Grammy's introverted appearance emphasizes how distant he is from his comrades
- First Appearance: TYBW Episode 15
Grammy is another character whose appearance and design may seem a little rudimentary on the surface, but there's still a lot to dissect here that reveals a lot about the person or the brain underneath. Grammy doesn't take any creative liberties with his Sternritter cloak, it's fully buttoned up and always keeps the hood over his head to hide his identity.
All this gives the fantasy trickster an aura of mystery, and also means that he is somewhat of an introvert who prefers to keep to himself. As revealed later in his fight with Kenpachi, Grammy is truly a heartless killer who doesn't like to give much away, even to his comrades, and his dress sense certainly reflects that.
6 Quilge Opie
Cuba made sure to make the first Sternritter in the series look as menacing as possible
- First Appearance: TYBW Episode 1
Quilge is the first official Sternritter that Ichigo meets in the story, and it's safe to say that he gives a solid idea of what the group is like, even just from his appearance alone. Quilge can be seen wearing a small cap that slightly covers his shadows, which seem to be stuck to his eyes. He also dons the standard Sternritter outfit with a long white cape and a pair of white gloves for good measure.
All of this suggests that this is a guy who is all about formality and obviously someone who dresses in a way that allows him to look down on others because of how well put together he is. Before his transformation, Quilge almost always wears a scowl on his face, further demonstrating his no-nonsense attitude and personality.
5 Lille Baro
Lille allowed himself some creative freedom with his unique clothing
- First Appearance: TYBW Episode 15
Lil's unique design shows that he wasn't too fond of the traditional Sternritter outfits, which made him seem to create his own improvised outfit, which is much more experimental than many others. While he retains the white vest, the sleeves are completely removed and half of Lil's clothing is a soft green, including a small two-horned hat with dark fur that contrasts with his light blond hair.
Lil is so dedicated to the cause of Yhwach that he also has many symbols emblazoned around his clothing, including the Wandenreich symbol on either side of his cap, as well as small emblems on his gloves. His always grumpy expression and single closed eye also give the impression that Lil is a man who has been in battle, making him an extremely fearsome man who can terrify his enemies before he even fires a bullet.
4 Bambietta Busterbine
Bambietta's sense of style and diverse facial expressions have made her a fan favorite
- First Appearance: TYBW Episode 3
Bambietta is a stern writer who easily stands out from the crowd not only with her clothes, but also with her facial expression. One moment she can be shown with a cocky and arrogant look on her face, and the next her eyes will be wide open as she sees a strong opponent standing before her.

Bleach: The Original Gotei Captains, Ranked by Design
The Gotei 13 are very powerful, but how durable are their designs?
Kubo and the animators of the Millennium Blood War anime clearly had a lot of fun with Bambietta's expressions, and as a result, the character always keeps people guessing. Also, Bambietta's thick coat, which looks a bit baggy on her smaller stature, paired with knee-high boots made her a fashion icon for many Bleach ventilators.
3 Askin
Askin's unassuming design masks his basic abilities
- First Appearance: TYBW Episode 4
Askin has a rather unusual appearance, it seems as if he was plucked from a completely different anime. It's been joked many times that he looks a lot like Aizen in terms of facial structure, and while the similarities are obvious, Askin also has this crazy expression that makes him incredibly strange and unpredictable.
However, since he is an official member of the Schutzstaffel, his wild expression is complemented by a stylish hooded coat and a smart white V-neck shirt, making him look more like a high-ranking official in the Quincy Army. It's an odd pairing, but one that purposefully makes fans wonder what the hell this guy is up to and why they can't look away from the screen every time he appears.
2 Gerard
Gerrard's powerful looks are matched by his impressive physical strength
- First Appearance: TYBW Episode 15
Cuba isn't used to borrowing from ancient history when developing his characters, and in Gerrard's case, it's clear that he took a few notes from Norse mythology when creating this Thor doppelganger. However, while the silky blonde hair and powerful build are indeed reminiscent of an ancient hero, Gerard still has a few other features that help him stand out, one of which is the white mask that rarely leaves his face.

Relatives
Bleach: 8 Characters With Best Arcs
These Bleach characters have experienced tremendous growth and development since their introduction.
He also has his own unique red cloak that really reinforces his image as the brave and powerful “hero” he makes himself out to be. All these extra decorations and outfit options aren't just for show though, as Gerard's abilities are still strong enough that he could easily be mistaken for a Norse god given his immense strength.
1 Like Nodt
Because Nodt's spiked mask and deep black eyes are enough to strike fear into any opponent
- First Appearance: TYBW Episode 3
Because Nodt's strange and disturbing design is very much in line with his special ability to manipulate his enemies with fear. As a result, Ace tends to intimidate opponents, which is pretty easy to do given his appearance. As the spiked black mask hides his mouth, it draws the audience's attention directly to his pitch-black eyes, which are more than enough to strike fear into even the most seasoned horror fan.
In addition, As Nodt is a very tall and slender creature who can often be seen stretching his body in all sorts of strange and terrifying ways, and who can forget the long flowing black hair that makes him look like the lead singer of a heavy metal band. It's a design so impressive that it stuck with many fans even after Ace met his death at the hands of Rukia.
