Insomniac Games Confirms Venom Isn’t Peter Parker Or Eddie Brock In Spider-Man 2

Insomniac Games has confirmed that Venom won’t be Peter Parker or Eddie Brock in Spider-Man 2, teasing that his identity will be a big part of the game’s storyline.

We only just got the first big gameplay reveal for Spider-Man 2 a few weeks ago, but it seems that Insomniac Games wasn’t done cooking, as it made a surprise appearance during Summer Game Fest. Insomniac Games creative director Bryan Intihar took the stage to give us the game’s release date, October 20, and several new pieces of art, as well as a big new detail about the game’s storyline.

After debuting a new piece of art featuring Miles and Peter fighting Venom, Intihar confirmed that the big bad isn’t going to be Eddie Brock and that his identity will play a big role in the game’s storyline. The piece of key art also debunked the popular fan theory that Peter Parker was going to be Venom in this universe, as we can clearly see him fighting the symbiote next to Miles.

Although Intihar is being very coy about Venom’s identity in the Insomniac universe, it seems incredibly likely that he’s Harry Osborn. We already know from the first game’s post-credits scene that Harry needs the symbiote to live, so it’s clear that he has a tie to the character somehow, but now that Insomniac has debunked the theory that it’s Peter Parker and Eddie Brock, it seems very likely that it’s Harry Osborn.

That being said, it’s made clear in the gameplay trailer that Peter has somehow taken the symbiote off of Harry, which is causing him to slowly die and need the help of Kurt Conners, which could suggest that it’s not him. We’re betting that it’ll eventually prove too much for Peter to handle, causing it to go back to Harry and set his turn as Venom in motion.

Outside of a new look at Venom and Kraven, Insomniac also revealed that Spider-Man 2 is coming to PS5 on October 20, which is a little later than the rumours suggesting that it’d be launching in September. We also got a brief look at the game’s cover art, which is very reminiscent of the first game, only with Miles swinging next to Peter as a symbiote appears to be crawling up his web and arm.

We also got a look at some of the new skins coming to the game through the digital deluxe edition. All ten of the skins revealed so far are from guest artists, which means that there’s plenty of room for some highly-requested fan favourites.
