Virtual reality offers a large range of games to explore, each with their attributes and mechanics to draw you into the experience. Although there are lots of action games that utilize VR’s motion controls, some games prioritize silly fun over serious gameplay.
One of the most surprising things about VR is that there are lots of funny games available on each virtual reality headset. These hilarious games aren’t just fun for virtual reality enthusiasts either – you can also use them to show your friends and family the wonders of virtual reality.
Updated June 6 2023, by Jack Webb: The wonderous world of VR has opened so many different ways to experience and enjoy games. Even the most serious of VR games can be considered hilarious, especially if you can’t help but slap your big VR hands onto any NPC’s face you encounter. This list has been updated with new entries, highlighting the fun that can come from any VR game you come across.
18 Time Stall
Time Stall is a very unique experience. You find yourself as the sole human on a spaceship full of robots. When time stops completely, you have to solve the issues aboard the ship before time starts again. The reason that this game is so funny is because of all the hilarious scenarios you can play out by manipulating the things aboard the ship.
You can try over and over to avoid disaster until you finally get it right, or you can have a blast creating funny situations. The choice is up to you, but the interactions you can have and create in Time Stall will have you laughing until the end of time. You can play this title on the Oculus Quest.
17 I Expect You To Die
I Expect You To Die has a lot of humour, but it’s also an amazing game in terms of mechanics. You get to solve puzzles as an intelligent agent and you’ll even get to use telekinesis to manipulate the world around you. The puzzles within this experience are quite difficult, so you’ll have a blast trying to figure them all out.
However, the puzzles aren’t so hard that this game is too difficult, which makes it a nice blend of casual and challenging. The spy humour will have you laughing in your chair, and the overall vibe of the game is quite humorous overall due to its silly secret agent theme mixed with the interesting narrator. You can play I Expect You To Die on the PSVR, PCVR Headsets, and the Oculus Quest.
16 Floor Plan 2
If you like escape rooms and comedy, then we’ve got the perfect game for you. Floor Plan 2 is an escape room-themed experience. Different rooms are connected by an elevator that takes you to each of them and you have to solve the puzzle within all of them to progress.
The characters and interactions in Floor Plan 2 are fantastically funny, and you’ll have a ton of fun solving the puzzles as well. As such, this is also a great game to show to new VR players since the concepts within it are easy to understand and hilarious. Floor Plan 2 is available on PCVR Headsets and the Oculus Quest.
15 I Expect You To Die 2
I Expect You To Die 2 follows in the footsteps of the first game with its spy theme and virtual reality puzzles. Once again, you’ll have the power of telekinesis to help you throughout your mission. Still, it won’t be easy to solve the difficult puzzles and challenge Zoraxis.
Overall, I Expect You To Die 2 has the same type of humour as the first, but with six new missions to complete. If you enjoy wacky challenges with puzzles to match, then this sequel offers just as much as the first title, and more since it builds upon its predecessor. This game is available on the PSVR, PCVR Headsets, and the Oculus Quest.
14 Virtual Virtual Reality
Virtual Virtual Reality has a funny story, but its concept is what will have you laughing. You’ll transport into the future where humans don’t need to work, so instead they complete virtual work to pass the time. You’re bored of all that effort, so you decide to ditch work and go on an adventure.
You get to run away from your in-game manager in Virtual Virtual Reality, all while exploring everything the virtual world has to offer while you’re already in virtual reality to begin with. There are many hilarious things to see in this game, but its unique concept is also a part of the humour. You can play Virtual Virtual Reality on the PSVR, PCVR Headsets, and the Oculus Quest.
13 Rick And Morty: Virtual Rick-Ality
Rick and Morty is a comedy cartoon, so it’s not too surprising that you can experience their misadventures in virtual reality. Rick And Morty: Virtual Rick-Ality offers you the chance to meet your favourite characters up close and be a part of the adventure.
You’ll get to become a Morty Clone and travel throughout the Rick And Morty universe, which puts you in some pretty funny situations. If you like Rick and Morty, then this game is an experience you don’t want to miss out on. Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality is available on the PSVR and PCVR Headsets.
12 Trover Saves The Universe
Trover Saves The Universe is another VR game with the same sense of humour as Rick and Morty, which shouldn’t come as a surprise considering Justin Roiland was also behind the writing in Trevor. In this adventure, you need to help Trover save the universe and help rescue his dog in the process.
The characters in Trover Saves The Universe are one of the funniest parts of this game, as each of them has a strange-looking appearance and personality that makes them feel like they’ve jumped straight out of a Rick and Morty episode. If you like that style of comedy, then you shouldn’t hesitate to play Trover Saves The Universe, which is available in virtual reality on the PSVR, PCVR Headsets, and the Oculus Quest.
11 Half-Life Alyx
Half-Life probably isn’t the first franchise that comes to mind when thinking about humour in video games, but that’s one of the core ways it differs from previous games in the series. The dialogue in Half-Life Alyx can be surprisingly comical, especially when Alyx and Russell are talking.
One of the funniest characters is Russell, who you’ll meet at the beginning of Half-Life Alyx. The conversations between Alyx and Russell last throughout the entire game because he acts as your virtual companion. Russel speaks to you from his home, giving you tips and constant witty banter. The gameplay alone is enough to try out Alyx, easily one of the most impressive VR games ever made. Half-Life Alyx is available exclusively on PCVR headsets.
10 Drunken Bar Fight
Drunken Bar Fight allows you to step into the shoes of a drunk person at a bar and lets you use objects in your environment to attack other customers, including darts, bottles, and even furniture.
Bar fighting in real life is a bad idea, but in virtual reality, it results in some hilarious situations. There’s even a multiplayer mode if you want to play with your friends and get into the bar fight you’ve always dreamed of. You can experience the mayhem of Drunken Bar Fight on the PSVR, PCVR Headsets, and the Oculus Quest.
9 Borderlands 2 VR
The Borderlands series has a reputation for its funny dialogue. Although the jokes in Borderlands 2 aren’t for everyone, they’re sure to make you laugh if you enjoy crude humour. It can be found throughout the whole of Borderlands too, pretty much making its way into every bit of dialogue.
Borderlands 2 is now available in virtual reality on PSVR and PCVR Headsets, which makes this a great time to jump into this hilarious game if you haven’t already. Outside of the funny dialogue, Borderlands 2 is a fun VR game that combines a class-based system with FPS gameplay for an action-packed experience.
7 Acron: Attack Of The Squirrels
In Acron: Attack Of The Squirrels, you have to defend a tree against squirrels or take control of the squirrels to attack the tree. The concept of squirrels attacking a tree is already pretty funny, but the squirrel’s animations are what truly secures Acron as one of the funniest VR games of all time. Additionally, you can connect with nearby friends on their mobile devices, which allows the headset owner to defend against the invading mobile players.
Playing with other people is where Acron shines, and laughing is unavoidable thanks to the game’s hilarious theme and character models. You can play Acron: Attack Of The Squirrels on PCVR Headsets and the Oculus Quest.
In Flavortown, you get to take control of a piece of food. Not just any food, you’re one of the police officers in the city, and you need to solve crimes to make it safer for all the food that inhabits the community.
Although Flavortown has a comedic theme, there’s quite a bit of action in this game. Along with the occasional first-person shooter gunfight, there’s lots of hilarious dialogue between the police officers and other food around town. If you’re ready to become a virtual officer of the law, then Flavortown is available on PCVR Headsets.
Like Rick And Morty: Virtual Rick-ality and Trover Saves The Universe, Justin Roiland worked on Accounting+, which is why it has the same sense of humour. There are lots of amusing dialogue lines in Accounting+, so it’s worth experiencing if you’re a fan of comedy.
You’ll also notice that the characters in Accounting+ have weird exaggerated models, which are sure to exhibit more than a few chortles from you upon seeing them for the first time. You can play Accounting+ on the PSVR, PCVR Headsets, and the Oculus Quest.
4 Among Us VR
With Among Us making the killer leap to VR, this is a brand-new way to experience the massively popular deception game. If you ever wanted to be more immersed in Among Us, this is the way to do it: you explore the location you’re all gathered in Virtual Reality instead of the 2D navigation style of the PC game.
As you might know, the premise of Among Us is already hilarious. Grabbing your friends and trying your best to deceive them as an imposter or diligently – yet extremely lusciously – working towards finding the imposter brings no end of joy, stress, humour, and stupendous moments. Experiencing it in VR ups the ante incredibly, making everything more fun.
3 Keep Talking And Nobody Explodes
One of the best party games to whack out, Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes is a terrific game. Sure, it might cause some arguments and raised voices, but what fun games don’t have this effect? One person in the VR world has to disarm a bomb with instructions from the other people in the room.
As you can probably imagine, there is a lot of room for error in this setup, causing some hilariously bad advice and arguments to waylay your best-laid plans in disarming the bomb. It’s one of the best games to play with a group of friends, and it will provide you with hours of joy and fun.
2 Job Simulator
Job Simulator sounds like it would be a boring game full of mundane tasks, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. In this hilarious parody of traditional workplaces, you’ll get to work jobs such as a cashier, chef, and office employee. Somehow, the mundane virtual reality of working a job is endlessly pleasing.
Although there’s not a deep plot, Job Simulator will have you laughing at all the hilarious experiences you can have, including eating food directly from the trash, throwing objects at your boss, and manipulating the physics system for all sorts of fun. If you’re ready to get to work, then you can play Job Simulator on the PSVR, PCVR Headsets, and the Oculus Quest.
1 Blade And Sorcery
You might not think that a weapon-fighting VR game could be considered funny, but Blade and Sorcery is legitimately hilarious. The game is a sandbox arena, where you fight waves and waves of enemies with swords, bows, magic, and other nasty weapons. The physics, rag-dolling, and creative freedom this game gives you will have you in hysterics.
Want to catch an arrow mid-flight and throw stab it into the person next to you? You can. Want to blast five people off a high place with magic and watch them clumsily fall over each other? Blade and Sorcery has no end of comedic value, but it’s all down to how you play. It can be serious or it could be a funny, albeit somewhat violent, romp.
