Updated on May 30, 2023: We’ve updated this guide on how you can quickly pay off your loan in Animal Crossing: New Horizons so you can play completely debt free!

Sell At Nook’s Cranny

Nook’s Cranny itself won’t be available at the start of the game, but Timmy and Tommy are always there to buy items from you.

Once it’s built, you can sell anything on the island for Bells, from the weeds that sprout up across the island to the extra furniture you collect on your adventures.

Craft And Sell The Hot Items Of The Day

Once Nook’s Cranny is built, read the sign outside the shop every day to see Today’s Hot Item. Timmy and Tommy will buy this item from you for twice the original price.

Some things are easier to make than others, but usually, you will find yourself collecting the supplies for the items anyway, so you might as well go the extra mile and craft them into something better for a few extra Bells.

Sell Extra Fossils And Paintings

Museum Items in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Fossils and paintings can sell for a pretty penny, so they’re well worth selling after you’ve donated the first one to the museum.

Make sure you assess fossils first, as they will sell for many more Bells.

Head To The Beach To Collect Shells

Shells on the beach in Animal Crossing

Shells will spawn on the shoreline and some will earn you quite a profit, as they range in price from 30 Bells to 1,200 Bells. All it takes is a bit of room in your pockets and a run along the beach to snatch up all the shells in the vicinity.

You are guaranteed to make a few thousand Bells doing this, which can go a long way in making a dent in your loans.

Sell Various Fruit

Fruit trees automatically spawn on your island, but there are six different fruits in all. It will take some exploring and coordinating with friends to collect and plant them all, but it’s worth it, as non-native fruit sells for 500 Bells, compared to the 100 Bells of native fruit.

The types of fruit you can collect include:

  • Peaches
  • Pears
  • Apples
  • Coconuts
  • Cherries
  • Oranges

Save Your Fish And Bugs To Sell To Flick And CJ

When you catch a particularly rare bug or fish, your instinct will be to sell it immediately at Nook’s Cranny. However, you can make more Bells by waiting for CJ and Flick to visit your island.

When selling fish to CJ and bugs to Flick, you’ll receive 1.5 times more Bells than you would if you had sold to Timmy and Tommy.

Invest In Turnips

Every Sunday, Daisy Mae will appear on your island selling turnips — the price varies every time she visits. You can buy these turnips and sell them at Nook’s Cranny for various prices. The price changes every day.

You can buy turnips for 110 to 90 Bells and you can sell them anywhere from 15 Bells to 800 Bells.

Selling your turnips is a gamble as you have to choose when to sell your product. It is possible to make a loss, so don’t go all in unless a good price is guaranteed.

Hit Every Rock On Your Island Daily

Your island always has one money rock, and you will want to hit it eight times. It will give you thousands of free bells, so you shouldn’t pass up on this offer.

Use Your Miles To Buy Bell Vouchers

When you use the Nook Stop, it will grant you so many miles for logging in for days in a row. Once you reach seven days, you will earn 300 Miles a day, and every two days you can buy one Bell Voucher with these.

A Bell Voucher costs 500 Miles, but you can sell it at Nook’s Cranny for 3,000 Bells. If you choose to continue to only spend your miles on these vouchers then you will be making bank, especially if you focus on completing the Nook Miles Plus challenges.

Use Your Bank Account To Your Advantage

The Nook Stop is not just useful for redeeming your Miles, but you also have your own savings account. It might not seem useful at first glance, but it can be if you play your cards right.

Once you start having to acquire bigger loans, you might be tempted to pay off your loan bit by bit which is the wrong move to make.

You want to throw your money into your savings account instead. At the end of the month, you will automatically be given an extra 0.05 percent in interest. For example, if you have one million Bells in your account, then at the end of the month an extra 500 Bells will be added.

If you are fine with time traveling, you can skip ahead months or years to speed up the process and earn free Bells.

Dig Up Bells

The final freebie Bells you can find on your island are in the form of randomly buried Bells. You can find them on the ground by looking for a glowing spot and digging here with a shovel.

It will give you a bag of 1,000 Bells and you could just pocket it, or you could make the decision to get even more. You can make a Bell tree by planting anywhere from 1,000 Bells to 99,000 Bells back in the ground.

It will grow into a money tree that drops three Bell bags. The amount contained in each Bell bag depends on how much you planted.
