Lords of the Fallen (2023)

Lords of the Fallen follows in the footsteps of many other games that have adopted the Soulslike formula from Dark Souls. Apart from the punishing combat and terrifying setting, a unique feature of the game is that it lets you travel between worlds. It’s up to you how you can use that to your advantage.

Pros

  • Great Soulslike combat.
  • Unique feature that lets you travel between worlds.

Lords of the Fallen is among the better Soulslike games to have come out in recent years. This is mainly down to the fact that apart from engading and brutal combat, the game builds a fascinating world and also features unique mechanics that make it stand apart.

For the pros

While Forza Horizon is for people who love driving for leisure, Forza Motorsport is for those who drive for sport. This is the game for pros, who love to tinker and tune with their ride to gain those ever-so-precious milliseconds. It replaces the flash and style of Horizon to give you a professional and serious setting.

Forza Motorsport takes driving seriously. While Horizon takes you across Mexico’s stunning landscape, Motorsport takes you to the racetrack, where every second counts. No fancy festival, no over the top stunts, just you, your car, and the track.

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon

The fires rise

The latest game by the renowned creators of Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring, Armored Core 6 changes up the formula with fast paces combat, highly customisable mechs, and a futuristic setting. Pros

  • From the creators of Dark Souls and Elden Ring.
  • Intricate level of mech customization.

After the blockbuster performance of Elden Ring, it seemed like FromSoftware wanted a challenge. Be it the Moonlight Greatsword or the Majestic Bazooka, FromSoftware has got it covered.

Starfield Cover

Starfield

Look up and wonder

Starfield is the first new IP from Bethesda in a quarter of a century, launched for the next-gen Xbox Series X|S and PC. Taking place outside our own Solar System, you play a member of the Constellation, a collective of explorers set on discovering new worlds.

Starfield is perhaps the biggest game to come out of Microsoft Studios this year, and it’s easy to see why. Building on the things Bethesda has learned from the Fallout and The Elder Scrolls series, the developer has given us a space-faring RPG with one of their best stories yet. There’s so much to do, that you might even forget that there ate thousands of planets to explore.

Mortal Kombat 1 Cover

Lies of P-1

Lies of P

Lies of P combines two things that have no business being together – a children’s tale about the perils of lying, and Soulslike combat. Weirdly, those two things go together very well in Lies of P, as Pinocchio searches for his creator, Gepetto, and uses his mechanical arm as a base for all sorts of weapons.

Pros

  • A unique retelling of Pinocchio.
  • Beautifully designed world and political commentary.
  • Not too heavy on the Soulslike formula.

You wouldn’t expect Soulslike combat in a retelling of Pinocchio, and yet Lies of P delivers it beautifully. The protagonist’s mechanical body lends perfectly as a base for all sorts of weapons that he must use to destroy the machinations standing in the way of him finding Gepetto. Brushing up on the original tale will go a long way in appreciating this retelling.

Payday 3 Cover

Payday 3

Time to plan a heist

The Payday series was one of the games that made online cooperative games fun, and after a long hiatus, Payday 3 hopes to do the same. Intricate heists require a level of planning and cooperation unlike many other onine shooters. After all, you can’t plan a heist if everyone’s not on board.

Pros

  • Great mission designs.
  • Builds on the classic Payday formula.

Payday 3 has been a long time coming, and the wait has been worth it. Fans of the series will love the new features and mission structures of the game, but may be disappointed at how short it is. Thankfully, it seems that developer Starbreeze Studios will be introducing more content at some point in the future.
