ReFantazio Gets New Gameplay And Story Details, Launches Fall 2024

It turns out that Atlus has been pretty busy recently, with the recent release of Persona 5 Tactica and the launch Persona 3 Reload on the horizon. Not content with having just one massive game in 2024, Atlus has given us another good look at its upcoming title Metaphor: ReFantazio, a new IP by the creators of Persona which was rebranded and re-revealed during the Xbox showcase earlier this year.

The Game Awards gave us another healthy dosing of Atlus goodness though, as a new trailer for Metaphor: ReFantazio has revealed several new story details, characters, gameplay, and a more narrowed down release date of Fall 2024. During the trailer, we get a good look at some of the animated cutscenes showcasing a bunch of characters, each one with a more interesting design than the last.

Persona 3 Is A Slow Burn I’m Glad I Finished

Persona 3’s opening hours are painful, but they’re worth powering through.

On top of that, we also get a look at a lot of gameplay, which looks quite a lot like the same gameplay we’re seeing in Persona 3 Reload. It features similar UI during combat, and we also see several methods of traversal including a hoverboard, which you might need to traverse the vast open world which seems to appear towards the beginning of the trailer.

It was also revealed that the person behind the design of many of the game’s machine is none other than Ikuto Yamashita, whose work you may recognize in Neon Genesis Evangelion. If you haven’t seen it, it’s an anime series full of iconic mech designs, so we know that Metaphor: ReFantazio is in good hands.

Metaphor: ReFantazio has definitely been a long time coming, especially if you’re one of the people who can remember when it was initially revealed. First titled Project Re Fantasy, Atlus actually announced the title almost seven years ago, with only a couple of teaser trailers released between then and its rebranding earlier this year. It’s one that Persona and Shin Megami Tensei fans have been looking forward to for quite some time, so it’s nice to see the release is still less than a year away.

As mentioned previously, Atlus has to give us Persona 3 Reload before it can turn its attention fully to marketing Metaphor: ReFantazio though. Thankfully, we don’t have to wait too long before we get to revisit Makoto and friends, as Persona 3 Reload is launching on Febraury 2 next year.

Along with it will come numerous changes to the original game, such as unbreakable social links, a new English voice cast, and the removal of the fatigue system, so now you can drag your friends through Tartarus without fear of getting ill.
