When playing the first Act of Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll come across a refugee camp of Tieflings led by Zevlor. While they’ll tell you all about their current troubles with Druids and Goblins, they won’t immediately share what happened that made them lose their homes.
Engage them in conversation, and you’ll soon realize that all these Tieflings haven’t been a group for long, and Zevlor leads them because he’s the only one with military experience. But what exactly happened to the Tieflings, and who really is the one that leads them?
Who Is Zevlor?
Zevlor is a Tiefling Paladin, and was a member of the Hellriders of Elturel, the biggest military force of Elturel, and its acting police force. Zevlor wasn’t just another soldier, but a commander among the Hellriders.
Elturel is one of the neighboring cities of Baldur’s Gate.
Just before the events of Baldur’s Gate 3, the city of Elturel was transported to Avernus, one of the layers of the Hells. Zevlor and all the Tiefling refugees are from Elturel, and were there when the city was taken to the hellish landscape.
Once their city was restored to the Material Plane, the people of Elturel started seeing all the Tieflings with distrust, since they looked so much like the Devils that tormented them. As such, all the Tieflings were cast out of the city, and without nowhere to go, they all looked to Zevlor for guidance.
Their only hope for survival was traveling towards Baldur’s Gate, but the journey would be filled with perils. They end up seeking refuge at the Grove run by Druid Halsin, escaping the strangely organized nearby Goblins.
Can You Romance Zevlor?
No, but aiding him is in your best interest. If he manages to survive for the final battle, he can call forth his old comrades, the Hellriders, to help you, and he uses his Paladin might to smite your foes.
If you’re looking to recruit Minthara, she’ll task you with slaying all the Tieflings in the Grove, Zevlor included. This means that not only you’ll lose his valuable aid, but you’ll also have to face off against a Paladin in the early stages of your playthrough.
