Room 665 is a lengthy section of Alan Wake 2, full of secrets. It can feel like a maze at first, and you’ll need to use Alan’s reality-changing powers even more heavily than you did in the subway tunnels.
When doors don’t lead where they should and a change in the lighting can alter the dimensions of a room, it’s easy to get lost in the Dark Place. This step-by-step guide will help you enter the Oceanview Hotel and navigate its halls until you find what you need to make progress toward your escape.
Updated November 14, 2023: We’ve added a video version of this guide to help you reach that creepy Room 665.
How To Enter The Oceanview Hotel
When Alan returns to the Dark Place’s incarnation of New York City after We Sing, the mysterious caller on the phone directs him to the Oceanview Hotel. It’s at the north end of the map, but the main entrance can’t be used; doing so will simply put Alan back outside.
After the hotel spits you out for the first time, look to the right for a neon sign for the Mirror Peak Bar. Enter the alleyway to follow it, but be sure to stop and watch the TV screens in the shop window to the left as you pass.
Follow the alleyway and turn right at the fork. You’ll encounter a brief cutscene; afterward, continue forward but don’t light the lamp just yet; instead, enter the small alley to the left to find a Word Of Power.
Once you’ve gotten the upgrade, go back out and use the Angel Lamp to reveal the door to the bar. Go inside to find a back route into the hotel.
Along the way, you’ll come to a rooftop with lots of Shadows. Carefully avoid them, but be sure to check the far left corner for a container with some supplies.
When the Darkness blocks your way, you’ll need to use three blasts from your flashlight to get through. Doing so will get the attention of the nearby Shadows, so be ready to fight or flee! If you have any ammo left for the Flare Gun, this is a great time to use it.
Go through the door beyond the barrier, then continue along the path. There are several more Shadows along the way. You’ll find a Break Room just before the ladder leading to the next area, so be sure to save!
Search the area for Words Of Power and Echoes, and pay a visit to Breaker in his room hidden below you and to the left, then go through the door near the flickering light. Collect the Angel Lamp charge there to make stairs appear, then return. Use the charge to turn on the flickering light.
Collect the supplies from the box that appears near the cardboard shelter, then go back through the door. With the light on, it will lead to a different rooftop than before. Take the stairs that you created, then take a U-turn to the left to find the hidden entrance to the Oceanview Hotel.
What Is The Passcode To Enter The Oceanview Hotel?
The door is locked with a passcode; go to the rooftop bar on the right and use the Angel Lamp to open the door. Read the drink menu inside; the Oceanview Cocktail is $25.50. Turn off the light to get the shotgun and supplies, then turn it on again to leave.
Enter code 2550 on the keypad at the door and enter the hotel. Follow the hallway and use the Room 665 Key that you got at the pay phone. Turn on the projector inside, then enter the video.
When you leave the room after the cutscene, you’ll see part of an Echo to your left. Enter the side hallway on the right and use it to reach the Echo’s viewing angle; doing so will open the elevator, allowing you to proceed.
Oceanview Hotel Walkthrough
When you reach the lobby, walk straight ahead and through the door to go behind the receptionist’s desk. From there, you can view another Echo and collect the Pre-Show Ritual scene element.
Use the Writer’s Board to add the Ritual to the lobby; a Break Room will appear to the left, as well as more corridors of the hotel to explore. Follow the looping hallway to find the FInal Scene in the far right corner, and a map of the hotel in the far left corner.
Use the Plot Board to move the Pre-Show Ritual to the Final Scene; a pile of props will appear near the map. Collect the key from the pile, then use it to enter Room 104.
To the right of the bed is a box of supplies. Get them, then leave through the door on the left side of the bed. They’ll take you through a back hallway that leads to another Break Room, this time on the second floor.
Room 223 contains a side room to the right; look in the shower there to find a briefcase filled with useful supplies, including two Flashbangs.
Room 216 is a back entrance to Room 206; the key to Room 209, where Breaker is waiting, is on the dresser inside.
Enter Room 219 and use the Angel Lamp inside. Doing so reveals a door leading to Room 202, the Rehearsal Room. There, use the Pre-Show Ritual at the Writer’s Board to reveal another Echo, which grants the Haunted Plot Element.
When you’re finished exploring, go to the Ballroom at the end of the second floor hall. Stand on the stage and apply Haunted at the Plot Board. From center stage, you’ll be able to see a new Echo and get the Devil Plot Element.
Collect the Word Of Power from behind the bar, then go to the Break Room just outside the Ballroom. The key to Room 101 will have appeared there; take it, then start making your way back downstairs.
When you enter Room 101, the television to the right will play a video. Watch it, then collect the supplies in the boxes by the entrance and the bed before moving on.
There are a lot of useful items here, so it’s worth heading back to the Break Room just outside Room 101 and to the right to store excess equipment in the Shoebox to make sure you can carry everything.
Return to the Entrance Hall and apply The Devil to the scene. A staircase will appear. Be ready for a fight, as a large group of Shadows will attack as you approach the stairs. Duck into the Break Room if you have to.
Climb to the sixth floor. On the second-to-last landing, Alan will mention that he senses a new idea; an Echo will spawn, so be sure to collect it before continuing.
Take either hallway on the sixth floor to the very end; you can ignore all the doors, as they’re locked. At the end of the hall you’ll find Room 666.
Enter the room and stand in the middle of the circular pattern on the floor to collect the Echo inside. After the cutscene, the Dark Presence will attack; flee back the way you came.
Midway down the hall, the Dark Presence will emerge in front of you; turn around and run through the connecting hallway to the other corridor. Don’t worry about the Shadows, just run right past them.
At the end of the second hallway, you can take refuge in the Break Room. Save, then take the double doors to find yourself back in the Entrance Hall.
Change the scene in the Entrance Hall to the Climax to get another Echo, then go to the Final Scene and apply Climax there. Enter Room 108 and follow the path.
Get the record from the body in the bathtub to complete the story of the Oceanview Hotel.
