Character customization is an important part of Baldur’s Gate 3, especially when it comes to selecting a background. Your background will determine who your character is and how they become inspired by interacting with the world. While there are many ways to gain Inspiration, your background ultimately determines what actions you’ll need to take.
There are devious backgrounds that promote crime and there are vigilant backgrounds that promote heroism. Being a Folk Hero means standing up for the little guy and defending the helpless. If these are actions you’re likely to take, then gaining Inspiration as a Folk Hero will be a piece of cake.
What Is A Folk Hero?
One of the backgrounds you can select in Baldur’s Gate 3 is the Folk Hero. This is a great option for you if you want to be a champion of the common people, making good-aligned decisions and saving who you can wherever you go.
Monsters and tyrants stand no chance against you, as you topple them to protect the helpless and the innocent. Through your good deeds, your legend grows to highlight your feats. Taking action to be a hero will gain Inspiration that you can use later.
You can use Inspiration to avoid combat, open new dialogue options, and earn unique rewards from NPCs. By being a champion of the common folk, you’ll act honorably and live up to your renown. You can only hold four Inspiration at a time, so use it wisely.
If you already have four Inspiration, any additional Inspiration will be converted into experience.
How To Gain Folk Hero Inspiration
In every act, there are multiple opportunities to earn Inspiration and change the tides in your favor. You may not be able to discover all of them in one go, but unlike other backgrounds, most of the Folk Hero’s Background Goals don’t conflict.
Here’s how you can get inspired as a Folk Hero:

How To Best Use Folk Hero Inspiration
Using Inspiration to reroll a failed Ability Check will help you progress through the game smoothly, avoiding unnecessary combat and helping the people around you.
If your character doesn’t have the Folk Hero background, you can bring the warlock, Wyll, with you to earn Inspiration by completing these goals. If your character does have this background, you can double up to earn twice as much without expending extra effort.
