It’s not hard to fall in love with Stardew Valley. Not only due to its relaxing ambiance, farming is an awesome way to unwind after a long day, but also because of the lovely townies you get to meet as you play through the game and get to know them on a deeper level.
From time to time, Pelican Town villagers will make certain requests, and they’ll even give you quests that you can do in exchange for gold and their friendship. It’s important to do these as they allow you to get to know the NPCs a little better and become closer to them.
The Mayor’s Shorts quest is probably one of the most, if not the most, well-known quests in Stardew Valley. You’ll receive it on the third day of Summer so don’t forget to check your mailbox. Mayor Lewis is looking for his purple “shorts”–he’s lost them and can’t remember where. You’ll be asked to handle this quest discreetly.

The Location Of The Mayor’s Shorts
Now, where could Mayor Lewis have possibly lost his “shorts”? Well, if you haven’t found them yet, they’re in an odd location. The mayor’s shorts can be found in Marnie’s Ranch, more specifically in Marnie’s Bedroom.
Marnie lives in her Ranch, which is located west of Pelican Town. You can get there by taking the town’s southwestern exit or the farm’s south exit. It’s the brown building with the red roof, it’s hard to miss due to the large fencing with cows on the outside.
She lives with her niece and her nephew. Her room is the one in the middle, right behind the main entrance where you can shop for animal products and purchase livestock.
How To Get Into Marnie’s Room
Now the tricky part is accessing Marnie’s Room. If you’re not one to talk to all the villagers daily or if you don’t distribute gifts that often, you might not be able to access her room right away. You are required to have at least two hearts with Marnie in order to be able to enter her room.
The best way to win her over is with gifts and talking to her daily. Quests are a bit more difficult because you never know when they’ll pop up. Not talking to a villager each day causes the friendship to decay, you will lose two friendship points a day if you don’t talk to her daily.
Loved gifts are worth 80 friendship points, liked gifts are worth 45 and neutral gifts are worth 20. Talking to a villager will also grant you 20 friendship points. You need 250 friendship points to gain a heart, therefore you need to get to at least 500 friendship points with Marnie to access her bedroom and get the Mayor’s shorts.
Regarding Marnie’s personal taste, here is a table that will help you decide what items you should gift according to what you have at your disposal.
