Mortal Kombat 1 Leak Gives First Look At Nintendo Switch Version

Mortal Kombat 1’s full roster leaked earlier today, but interestingly, the leaker got their information from a Nintendo Switch copy. This means that we also got a glimpse at NetherRealm’s newest fighter running on much weaker hardware.

“I have an early copy,” rearisen said, attaching a video showing the early parts of Mortal Kombat 1’s story mode. “I would avoid [getting it] on Switch as the performance isn’t up to par for a $70 title. Lots of lag whenever there is a lot of movement. This strange persistent glitch that tears the middle of the screen is the most jarring thing”.

“When I fought my first AI opponent, it took about two minutes after we locked arms waiting to fight,” rearisen said. “In its current state, I wouldn’t say [it’s] unplayable. It’s just that the cutscenes have garbage fps. The actual gameplay is smooth. I should also note I haven’t played a Mortal Kombat since the original, and it feels just like that.” They also said that, because of the lower resolution, it looks “pixelated”.

Rearisen called the port “atrocious”, urging others away from playing on Switch and instead suggesting you play on current-gen consoles if at all possible. Their experience was based on playing handheld, not docked, so we don’t yet know how it looks or plays when stretched to higher resolutions.

Beyond performance, they also shared photos of the roster, which gives us a look at the downgraded models and how they compare to the PS5 and Xbox Series versions that we have seen in trailers, preview footage, and key art.

Bubushan took to the Mortal Kombat subreddit to create a side-by-side of Johnny Cage in particular, with many poking fun at his “lost chin” and “dentures”.

On the Mortal Kombat Leaks subreddit, rearisen also shared a photo of their Nintendo Switch with the game running, giving us a look at the full kameos menu.

This is where the Johnny Cage model is ripped from, but we also get to see Darrius, Smoke, and Sektor on the Switch.

Rearisen claims that they simply got their $70 pre-order copy early by mistake. However, it’s worth noting that we saw the same claims made by a Starfield leaker before its launch.

They were later arrested for allegedly stealing copies and trying to sell them online, meaning that their early delivery was reportedly an illegally obtained copy. However, this has happened in the past with the Mortal Kombat series. As recently as with 11, someone got a PS4 copy early and revealed Frost as the secret character.
