However, we’re only interested in true exclusives here, the games that can only be purchased and played on the PS5. Here are the games you should seriously look into once you’ve booted up your console and are ready to dive into the world of enhanced graphics, rapid loading times, and innovative controller effects.

Updated on July 17, 2023 by Kyle Chamaillard: The PlayStation 5 has been around for a few years now, and while it’s easier to purchase now more than ever, there still aren’t many exclusive games for it. Some of the console’s greatest titles – Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and Returnal – have been ported to the PC, and only a couple of new titles have taken their place.

There are still only a handful of games you can only play on the PS5, and we’ve decided to update this list to remove the games that have been ported elsewhere and add the new ones to see where they rank against the rest.

5 Destruction AllStars – Fast And Furious

Genesis Leaps Ahead Of Collision As Shyft Rides A Car Behind Her

It’s a shame that there is a lack of vehicular combat games available these days. The genre was immensely popular in the late 90s, but quickly became oversaturated with games and nearly disappeared completely. Sony attempted to breathe new life into the genre with Destruction AllStars, but it ended up crashing and burning with its concept.

Destruction AllStars almost has everything it needs to be a hit. The diverse roster of characters is compelling and unique, and each driver has their own abilities and vehicles. While the game was originally announced to be sold at full price, Sony instead released it for free to PlayStation Plus subscribers for the first two months after its launch. Unfortunately, the free price tag and interesting characters couldn’t save Destruction Allstars from its underwhelming gameplay and bland stages.

4 Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores – More To Explore

Aloy and Seyka stand beneath an overgrown Hollywood sign

While Horizon Forbidden West was developed for both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, the excellent Burning Shores expansion is only available to those with the latest hardware. Set in an entirely new location, this DLC follows Aloy and a new companion as they work together to stop another apocalyptic threat from destroying the world.

Horizon Forbidden West is already a massive game, but the Burning Shores expansion contains another ten to fifteen hours worth of content to explore. You’ll need to become familiar with the new abilities and weapons to take down unfamiliar threats like Bileguts and Waterwings. If you enjoy the world of Horizon and are invested in Aloy’s journey, the Burning Shores DLC will have everything you’re looking for and more than a few unexpected surprises.

3 Astro’s Playroom – Say Hello To Your Little Friend

Astro Bot Waves To you From A DualSense In The Main Hub Area Of The Playroom

Once you finally have your PS5 at home, it will take some time to download the majority of the games you bought along with it. Fortunately, the console comes pre-installed with one of its best games, which you can play right away while you wait. Astro’s Playroom is so much fun that by the time your other games finish installing, you might not want to leave its vibrant and creative world.

Though it’s a short experience, Astro’s Playroom is packed with exciting levels, stellar music, and a fascinating retrospective on the history of PlayStation consoles. Astro Bot is one of Sony’s more adorable mascots, and guiding him through gorgeous levels is an absolute blast. The best part about the game, though, is how it utilizes the DualSense controller’s many features — such as haptic feedback and adaptive triggers — to create an immersive platformer unlike any other.

2 Final Fantasy 16 – Game Of Eikons

Clive pets Torgal on a stone path

Since the original Final Fantasy launched on the Famicom and NES, the series has consistently subverted and reconstructed the definition of an RPG. The latest entry – Final Fantasy 16 – mostly throws the turn-based mechanics of its predecessors away in favor of a more action-oriented playstyle that’s reminiscent of Bayonetta and Devil May Cry. It’s a bold strategy that creates a refreshing journey while still feeling like a Final Fantasy game.

Heavily inspired by Game of Thrones, Final Fantasy 16 follows Clive Rosfield as he seeks revenge for a betrayal that changed his life forever. It might not be the longest Final Fantasy game, but its focused narrative keeps the plot moving at a steady pace that continues to build until the epic final battle. Between the fast-paced combat system and the spectacular battles between the god-like Eikons, Final Fantasy 16 feels like a game that could only run on the PlayStation 5 due to its scale and ambition.

1 Demon’s Souls – A Reimagined Classic

Demon Slayer Stands In Front Of Boletarian Palace As Enemies Approach And A Dragon Flies Above

When Demon’s Souls was first released for the PlayStation 3 in 2009, it was beloved by the few who played it — but wasn’t able to make it into the mainstream on its own. Over time, its spiritual successors gained more momentum, and eventually, the Souls series and their spin-offs became some of the most popular and anticipated games of the generation. When Sony announced that Bluepoint Studios would be remaking the often-overlooked original, fans couldn’t have been more delighted.

The Demon’s Souls remake launched alongside the PS5 in 2020 and remains the best exclusive in its library. It features new weapons, armor, and an enhanced character creator, among other quality-of-life improvements. Its astonishing graphics and incredible gameplay create an immersive adventure in a world full of secrets and magnificent bosses. Demon’s Souls remains the best showcase of the PS5’s potential and a must-play for anyone fortunate enough to own the console.
