Earlier this year, developer Niantic announced that this year Pokemon GO The Halloween performance will take place in two parts: the first will take place in mid-October, and the second will cover Halloween itself.
Details of the first part Pokemon GO The Halloween 2024 event was recently announced in an official post on the Niantic blog. The event will begin with the debut of the game's first: Morpeko, a Pokémon that can change form mid-battle.

Niantic makes an interesting announcement about Pokemon GO's next event of the day, and it could dramatically change the game's meta.
Morpeko changes modes when using charged attacks
Previous examples of Pokemon coming in different forms, such as Castform or Furfrou, were handled by separate player entries Pokemon GO inventories. Morpeko, the Hamster-like Pokémon of Gen 8 used Pokemon sword and shield trainer Marnie will instead switch between Full Belly and Hungry Mode mid-fight.
Morpeko will start every battle in Full Belly mode with his Charged Aura Attack Wheel as an Electric-type move. The first time Aura Wheel is used, the Pokemon switches to Cold Mode, and Aura Wheel is now a Dark-type attack. The switches will happen every time a Pokemon uses a charged attack, encouraging trainers to make careful decisions about when to switch things up.
During the Halloween Part 1 event, which runs from October 22-28, players can potentially earn Morpeko as a performance reward Pokemon GO League battles of any rank. Players will also be able to encounter one Morpeko as part of the Spiritomb-themed Timed Research quest, and others by completing a timed field research. After the event is over, Marpeko will continue to appear in the Pokemon GO The league is in 16th place and higher. Players on the premium track are more likely to encounter Morpeko.
Morpeko can pave the way for other form-changing Pokémon
With the introduction of mid-battle form changes, other Pokemon with similar abilities can be added to Pokemon GO in the near future. One of the main contenders Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Palafin with his visually distinct Zero and Hero forms. Other Pokemon that are already there Pokemon GO but without their signature shapeshifting abilities like Darmanitan with Zen Mode, their playstyle may be changed in future updates.
Other events during the Halloween celebration, part 1
While the addition of Marpeko is the main draw of Part 1 Pokemon GO Halloween isn't the only spooky surprise Niantic has in store for its players. During the week-long event, players can also expect the following:
- Dynamax Gastly will appear on Power Spots. Players can battle Gastly in teams of four and even capture one for themselves.
- Shiny Umbreon's speed will be increased in raids
- Shiny Zorua's rate will be increased in the wild
- Scary Pokemon like Sandygast, Moorcrow, and Zubat will appear more frequently in the wild.
- Sableye and Absol, including their Shiny variants, can rarely appear in the wild.
- Sneasel, Sableye, both versions of Yamask, Hisuian Typhlosion, Umbreon, and Bombirdier will appear in Raids.
- Limited-time field research will allow players to earn Mega Energy for Absol, Banette, Gengar, Houndoom, and Sableye.
- An exclusive ticket to the event, which costs $5, will allow players to choose between a Morpeko hoodie in Full Belly mode and a Morpeko hoodie in Hangry mode for their avatar. It will also include encounters with costumed Pokemon that will appear in Part 2 of the event.
