Artistic Pokemon fan has drawn some interesting new designs for Geodude and his entire evolutionary line. Geodude, Graveler, and Golem were Rock's main types Pokemon franchise since the first games were released in the late 90s, and the fan-made redesigns keep the boulder-like features and add more stone detail.
Rock-type Pokemon are some of the best defensive fighters in the games, especially early on when wild encounters are less likely to use super-effective water and steel moves to break through their defenses. While the Geodude line is not generally considered one of Rock's best types Pokemonits legacy dating back to Gen 1 has endeared itself to many long-time fans of the franchise.
As shared on Pokemon subreddit, user necrovvi's design seems to focus on the dual Rock and Ground types of the Geodude line, adding some additional earthy browns and red tones to accent the Pokemons original gray color schemes. Each stage in the evolutionary line also received some additional rocky features that protrude from their head or back. The three dark, rocky ridges on top of the redesigned Geodude's head are somewhat similar to the Alalan Geodude regional variant introduced in Pokemon sun and moonalthough the headpieces in the fan photos are smaller, wider, and bulkier than Pokemon's Rock and Electric variants.
The Geodude line received a fan redesign
One feature of these designs that commenters seemed to appreciate was the artist's transition from Graveler to Golem. In its mid-evolution stage, Graveler gets an extra set of weapons in the games when it evolves from Geodude, but Graveler's evolution to Golem somehow causes it to lose an extra set of limbs, a problem that is addressed by these redesigns. In the comments section, the artist singled out the problems with the original Golem design, noting that it needed “a little extra spice to compete with the other stone types.”
The artist who created the three new designs didn't limit his creative vision to just the Geodude line. A quick look at their Reddit account shows custom images of Pokemon in a variety of art styles, from pop art and anthropomorphized members of their nuzlocke teams to tiny Snorlax and Gyrado. Although they've only been sharing the redesign for about two weeks, the user has already gotten a look at the Charmander, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Gastly, Dratini, and Poliwag lines. Each redesign set adds new elements to enhance the most memorable characteristics or types of Pokemon, with the Dratini line gaining feathered features similar to the flying dragon in The secret of mana and Polywhirl, who accentuates his fighting type with a slimmer figure.
