PlayStation announces the dates for the next free multiplayer weekend

PlayStation fans who are not subscribed PlayStation Plus in luck, as the consoles will be hosting a free online multiplayer weekend for everyone in early December. The PlayStation Free Weekend will allow players to take advantage of the console family's online multiplayer offerings, provided users have an internet connection and a PSN account.

PlayStation Plus is Sony's subscription service for the PlayStation 4 and 5. In addition to allowing players to play online, the subscription has several tiers that allow players to play a selection of free games, stream from the cloud, or even play some PlayStation titles on PC.

PS Plus Premium Adding 3 Classic PS2 Games in December 2024

Sony confirms that three classic PlayStation 2 games will join the PS Plus Premium line-up in December 2024.

In honor of PlayStation's 30th anniversary, the company is giving players a free weekend of online multiplayer, starting December 6th and running through December 8th. Throughout the weekend, players only need an internet connection and a PlayStation Network account to play any of their own games online with other players for free. It's a great opportunity to try out the service for those who have been on watch, although the weekend appears to be limited to online play and doesn't give users any free catalogs of games to try out.

PlayStation is celebrating its 30th anniversary

When the original PlayStation launched way back in 1994, the company has a lot to celebrate. In addition to the aforementioned free weekend, Sony will also be celebrating with an eSports tournament on the same weekend, December 6-8. Players will be able to participate in games such as Deadly battle 1, Tekken 8, Madden NFL 25, Guilty Gear Striveand much more. Winners will be awarded avatars and game prizes depending on the game they participated in.

For those who enjoy the online competition and multiplayer capabilities of PS Plus, there's also the chance to potentially win a 30-month subscription to PS Plus for free. PlayStation awards 30 people in each participating country, for a total of 780 winners. To enter, fans need only sign up for a PlayStation Plus Premium membership and play any game from the Classics catalog. Existing members can also participate by simply playing a game from the Classics catalog. The draw will take place from December 10 to 23.

As the year draws to a close, more and more gamers will be getting their hands on a PS5 for the first time and experiencing everything the console has to offer. This is a good time to sign up for PS Plus as the influx of new players should make online gaming more active and exciting.
