How to become an overseer of a settlement in no man's sky

To be the leader of a settlement, you must first find it. Every planet (except abandoned planets) has at least one settlement. To find a locality, you can also use a Planetary map available from the cartographer on any space station.

The main goal is to ensure that performance is higher than cost of maintenance. If productivity is higher, the settlement will gradually clear its debt, allowing it to start mining resources. If the Maintenance Cost is higher, the settlement will accumulate debt, preventing it from producing resources.
