Nintendo Switch Online checks another big item off players' wish lists

Nintendo Switch Online far from perfect service. Since its launch in 2018, Switch Online has struggled to match its Xbox and PlayStation counterparts because the service lacks common features like party chats and direct messages. Switch Online's infrastructure has also come under constant criticism over the past six years, with network code and server issues often causing extreme latency. But one shining beacon over the years has been Nintendo Switch Online's ever-growing library of retro video games.

Starting with a handful of NES games, Nintendo Switch Online now features over 300 retro titles, including SNES, Sega Genesis, Game Boy, GBA and Nintendo 64. This impressive collection just got a little bigger, with classics Donkey Kong the game was added a few days ago.

Donkey Kong Land 2 is now on Switch Online

In 1995 Rarely developed Land of Donkey Kong released for the original Game Boy. An incredibly ambitious project for that time, Land of Donkey Kong was a shortened, remastered version of the beloved SNES game Donkey Kong Country. Although some bosses have been changed and levels added, Land of Donkey Kong was a wildly successful attempt to capture the gameplay formula Donkey Kong Countryso much so that a sequel came out just a year later.

Donkey Kong Land 2 launched in September 1996, also for the original Game Boy. Like its predecessor, Donkey Kong Land 2 tried overclocking a full snes Donkey Kong game in one tiny Game Pak. Donkey Kong Land 2 it's essentially a remade version Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Questborrowing the SNES game's narrative and many of its stage names, but changing some of the level designs.

A big change in Donkey Kong Land 2 and its more technically impressive SNES counterpart was the ability to play as Dixie Kong, who could twist her hair to slide. Donkey Kong Land 2 is now available on Nintendo Switch Online.

But Land of Donkey Kong series is actually a trilogy, and that means there's one more entry left to join the Nintendo Switch Online roster. Donkey Kong Land 3 was originally released in 1997, giving fans a portable version Donkey Kong Country 3: Double Trouble Dixie Kong!albeit with altered level layouts once again. with Land of Donkey Kong 1 and 2 now on Switch Online, it would be great if Donkey Kong Land 3 was right behind them, especially as DCL2 was added just four days after its predecessor.
