The much-loved radio star, whose shock breast cancer diagnosis led to a surge in women booking shows, stopped by her regular show to update listeners on her sudden battle, revealing she was still “a bit shaky” after emergency surgery.
Ali Clarke, presenter of Adelaide's Mix 102.3 morning show, shocked listeners last week by revealing she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and would be undergoing a mastectomy.
She told co-host Max Burford and Deputy Hayley Pearson on Tuesday morning that Friday's surgery went well, but she is now “walking in the door” and “a bit wobbly”.
“I'm actually home,” she said.
“It's just incredible to be back in your own bed.
“The nurses and doctors are wonderful, but being at home is just wonderful and the kids can fight for not looking after me.”
The 47-year-old mother-of-three broke down in tears last week as she revealed her dramatic cancer scare and told Burford and Pearson on Tuesday that she was “definitely fine”.
“I was high, not just with the help of drugs, and then you kind of collapse,” she said.
In a light-hearted moment, Clarke said she was “totally lit up” by some of the medication doctors gave her after surgery and may have hallucinated seeing poodles in her hospital room.
She said the effects of the surgery were not as serious as she had feared and told listeners that her children had asked to see the results and had not “backed out”, which she called a “huge relief”.
“It was nowhere near as confrontational as I had built it up in my mind,” she said.
The material collected during the operation is now being tested, and Clarke said her battle will depend on the results of those results.
“It's going really well so far, but I still have to wait for the results,” she said.
