Bloodbornedespite being seemingly inexplicably forgotten by both FromSoftware and Sony, is often considered one of the best games of the previous decade. It's home to some of the best stories FromSoftware has ever produced, a truly unforgettable and unsettling world, and of course a legion of brutal, brutal boss battles.
BloodborneThe best bosses exist at the intersection of challenge, lore, and spectacle, offering a potent combination of immersive gameplay, awe, and terror. While most FromSoftware games are characterized by an element of surprise, Bloodbornedescent into insanity and cosmic horror from the supposed standard Van Helsing-inspired story creates a particularly strong variety of bosses, its roster populated by werewolf-like beasts, madmen, and obscure, god-like horrors. indeed BloodborneThe boss line is one of FromSoftware's most iconic.
The following level list excludes Chalice Dungeon bosses, focusing only on bosses from the main story and

S-level bosses in Bloodborne
- Ludwig the Damned
- German the First Hunter
- Lady Mary of the Astral Clock Tower
- An orphan from Kos
- The presence of the moon
Mount Rushmore Bloodborne bosses are characterized by several key factors, including aesthetics, the importance of lore, and how well each encounter utilizes the game's combat mechanics. Take Ludwig the Damned for example: this boss's grotesque, hideous design is most inspired by FromSoftware, and his viciousness, aggressiveness, and wide range of attacks make him an easy pick Bloodbornethe scariest boss. There's also his connection to the game's main narrative, which adds a layer of significance that makes his battle more than just a spectacle.
The same can be said for the likes of Lady Mary and Orphan of Kos. These bosses are integral parts Bloodbornestory, and they test the player's mettle with new and unexpected attack patterns. In the case of the Orphan of Kos, who may appear Bloodbornethe toughest boss, players will need to use their full range of abilities and experience with game mechanics to achieve victory. But like any good video game boss battle, it never feels unfair despite its mind-boggling difficulty.
Lady Maria, the guilt-ridden gatekeeper of the Fisherman's Village, provides another emotionally resonant confrontation that reinforces her power. A hunter of the wind herself, she forces the player to increase their aggression and intensity more than ever before. Her fatal grace may have inspired others like her Elden RingMalenia is a good thing or a terrible thing, depending on who you ask.
Herman and the presence of the moon are important in the narrative and dramatically poignant, but not particularly complex. By the time the player reaches these final two, the main bosses, they will likely be strong and experienced enough to defeat them in just a few tries, and while this usually gives the boss a lower level slot, their relative ease is actually helps the pace of the game, as they punctuate Bloodbornea nightmare story that offers spectacle rather than disappointment. Also, while their moves are easy to counter, they're still fun to dance with – which can't be said for the game's lower quality boss fights.
A-Tier bosses in Bloodborne
- Great Martyr Laharius
- Father Gascoigne
- Vicar Amelia
- Shadow of Yarnam
- Ebrietas, daughter of Cosmas
- Nurse Mergo
The bosses in this tier are still fantastic – in 90% of other games they'd be considered S-tier – but they're let down a bit by the more artfully crafted encounters. The likes of Father Gascoigne, Vicar Amelia and Martyr Laharius help paint a fuller picture Bloodbornea dark and soulful world, with the transformations of Gascoigne and Amelia into beasts, embodying the twisted world of Yarnam, so far removed from the main pillars of humanity. Logarius, on the other hand, embodies a violent and psychopathic conflict with the Vilebloods, his boss battle showing another dimension of Yharnam's dark underbelly.
Nurse Mergo and Shadow of Yarnam are two of them Bloodbornethe most mechanically unique boss encounters. The former throws illusions and complex, multifaceted attacks at the player, while the latter is a three-man team fight, encouraging different strategies depending on the build and playstyle. In contrast, Ebrietas is a very simple, easy fight, but the heart-wrenching details of her story, combined with her unforgettably grotesque appearance, make her simply unforgettable.

FromSoftware's role-playing games have always included a typical genre feature, and the studio may be able to double down on it in interesting ways.
Level B bosses in Bloodborne
- Cleric Beast
- A bloodthirsty beast
- Tonsil
- Life failures
- Lawrence, the first vicar
- Dark Beast Parl
Below the list are bosses that are either mechanically mediocre or exhibit a defining characteristic of the worst boss battles in the game: gimmicks. Amygdala and Living Failures fall into the latter category, as their battles, while visually interesting, don't benefit the most from Bloodbornefast and aggressive combat. They can be a nice change of pace, but they don't match the mechanical strengths of the game.
Darkbeast Paarl and Blood-Starved Beast are guilty of being too difficult for what they're worth: their attacks will be strong and fast, but countering them isn't all that interesting and fun. Paarl can be defeated by simply sticking to his back, while the Blood-hungry Beast can be blasted with fire and a few well-timed shots (which is admittedly very satisfying), giving them more freedom in terms of design, especially compared to higher-level bosses.
Then there is Beast the Cleric and Lawrence the First Vicar. Lawrence's encounter benefits from its lore importance, but the fact that it's basically just a Cleric Beast re-skin with a few added AOE moves cheapens it a bit. The Cleric Beast itself, as the first boss most players will encounter, is already fairly mechanically simplistic, cementing both of these bosses as good, but not great.
C-level bosses in Bloodborne
- Nicholas, master of the Nightmare
- Rum is an empty spider
- The Witch of Hamwick
- Homogeneous
- Heavenly emissary
Finally, the lowest level Bloodborne boss fights are characterized by terrible tricks that appeared in the previous level. Nicholas and the Witch of Hemwick are strong contenders for the worst Bloodborne boss fight, both lack style and flair to make up for their tedium. Celestial Emissary, Rom, and The One Reborn are much more interesting in terms of visual design, spectacle, and lore, but they also fail to encourage deeper interaction or experimentation with game mechanics, their battles instead focusing on mopping up hordes of enemy fodder before whaling on a large powerless mass.
