LEGO games have come a long way since 1997 LEGO Island. Although they started life as fairly simple sandbox games, park builders and Mario Kart clones, the LEGO games have become one of the most popular family action platformer franchises, with many games related to the movies holding a close place in the hearts of many who grew up with them. now LEGO Horizon Adventures presents itself as the next part of LEGO's evolution.
While LEGO releases sets based on video game IPs like Supervision, Minecraft, Super Marioand Sonic the Hedgehogcollaborations like this don't come back often in the world of video games. LEGO Horizon Adventures seems to set a new precedent. Much more than just an adaptation of the first Horizon the game LEGO Horizon Adventures packed with features, many of which refer to some of LEGO's most beloved games. And this melting pot-like approach should be reconsidered.

LEGO Horizon Adventures has its own fun way of fixing Zero Dawn's long-standing flaw
One major criticism has hovered over Horizon Zero Dawn since its launch in 2017, and LEGO Horizon Adventures has its own funny way of fixing it.
LEGO Horizon Adventures is a melting pot of past ideas
LEGO Horizon Adventures adapts a well-known story
As mentioned above, most of the most popular LEGO games over the past two decades have been licensed movie-related games that adapted several movies from popular franchises such as Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Harry Potterand Jurassic Parkwith Similarly, LEGO Horizon Adventures adapts the story Horizon Zero Dawnthe first game of PlayStation's own franchise.
The main mass LEGO Horizon AdventuresRun time will most likely be spent playing through the game's linear levels, solving simple environmental puzzles, and hacking away at hordes of humanoid and robotic enemies. This gaming cycle will also likely return to licensed LEGO adaptations. Co-op for two players will also be present in the LEGO Horizon Adventuresallowing for classic split screen fun.
LEGO Horizon Adventures borrows the LEGO Fortnite/Worlds customization hub
For now LEGO Worlds was not quite that Minecraft competitors it claimed to be, the game's customizable biomes were a major strength. These customizable biomes continue to live LEGO Fortnitewith players able to create a huge range of structures made from many different types of LEGO bricks. LEGO Horizon Adventures tries to capture this setting and the player freedom that comes with it by allowing players to personalize their hub zone with new buildings.
LEGO Horizon Adventures brings back character customization
For the first time in quite a few years, LEGO Horizon Adventures allow players to customize their character. While a full-fledged custom character creator probably won't be in the game, LEGO Horizon will allow players to change the appearance of characters such as Aloy and Varl, dressing them in clothing based on classic LEGO themes such as Space, as well as costumes based on other PlayStation franchises such as LittleBigPlanet.
LEGO Horizon Adventures has a familiar whimsical tone
A common strength of most LEGO games is their overall humorous tone. In classic LEGO titles, where the characters did not speak, this humor comes from visual gags and facial expressions, while in recent LEGO titles, this humor can occasionally come from tongue-in-cheek, often self-referential one-liners. It seems as if LEGO Horizon Adventures pushes the tone of this trademark forward.
Future LEGO games shouldn't be afraid to borrow from the past
Ideally, LEGO games should be constantly evolving, with each new entry bringing several new features. But it's no longer an ideal scenario, with the game losing much of what fans loved about the franchise. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is a great example of this.
For now LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was a major step forward for The LEGO Movie adaptations, its increased scope and scale left some of the franchise's beloved features on the studio floor. Character customization, more linear levels, and a proper implementation of co-op in boss fights were all missing LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga in favor of more playable characters, more side missions, and more open world hubs. For now The Skywalker Saga was a solid evolution, future LEGO games need to make sure they still don't heed the past.
