Key conclusions
- Several characters in Jujutsu Kaisen, such as Inumaki and Panda, received unsavory endings or resolutions.
- Influential characters such as Urame and Kinji Hakari have had little or no development in recent chapters.
- The controversial death of Satoru Gojo and the sudden return of Nobara Kugisaki were some of the disappointing aspects of the manga's finale.
After 6 years of serialization by Gege Akutami Jiu-jutsu Kaisen The manga has finally come to an end. It was clearly one of the biggest and most influential action shounen series of the past few years, and will be remembered for the most part. But the truth is that its ending was mixed with fans and longtime readers for several conflicting reasons.
One is the surprising number of characters who have received somewhat unsavory resolutions to their stories. Either because their endings were disappointing or because they completely disappeared from the manga in the final arcs, the following Jiu-jutsu Kaisen symbols are among the most egregious examples of this misfortune.
Spoiler warning
for the entire manga.
10 Toge Inumaki
He used to be one of the main characters, but in the end he did almost nothing
- First appearance: Chapter 0-1 (Manga) Episode 5 (Anime)
Toge Inumaki was one of Utah's classmates and was to become one of the main characters of the series. Although this later changed when the manga shifted its focus to Itadori and his friends, Inumaki was still an important figure in the story, mainly due to his unique cursed technique, Cursed Speech.
But as the manga went on, Inumaki became less and less relevant, to the point where he almost disappeared from the story. After he lost one of his arms during Sukuna's rampage in Shibuya, he didn't really do much else except record himself saying “Don't move” on a recorder so that Yuuta could use it against the Curse King in the final battle. . After Sukuna's defeat, Inumaki simply went back to his normal life.
9 Panda
He lost his father and his siblings. What now?
- First appearance: Chapter 0-1 (Manga) Episode 5 (Anime)
This cannot be denied Panda is one of the most fascinating characters in the Jiu-jutsu Kaisen. He is a mutated cursed corpse created by Headmaster Yaga who holds three different cores within his body, each with their own abilities. Combined with his adorable design and adorable personality, it's clear why he was one of the series' original main characters.
Unlike Inumaki, Panda kept an active role after the Shibuya incident, but he definitely left a lot to be desired. First, his father was punished by his jiu-jutsu superiors, but aside from briefly mourning his death, Panda never reacted to this loss. To top it all off, two of his cores were destroyed by Kashima, and he didn't even get to show off the power of his sister's Triceratops Mode, disappointing readers who have been waiting a long time to witness this transformation. After this crushing defeat, Panda could be seen hanging around the other characters in a lesser form, but he didn't do much.
8 Uraume
Wait, why did they go after Sukuna in the first place?
- First appearance: Chapter 53 (Manga) Episode 21 (Anime)
Sukuna's most faithful subordinate, Uraumewas also one of the most powerful incarnate wizards in the series, mainly due to their cursed Ice Formation technique, which allows them to use cryokinetic freezing powers. However, despite having an important role as Sukuna's second in command, Uraume was not used in the final chapters.
They were to have a climactic final encounter with Kinji Hakari while the rest of the heroes battled their master. Unfortunately, as exciting as that sounds, most of this battle took place off-screen. While Uraume did appear in the last chapter, going into the afterlife with Sukuna, it was far from satisfying as their backstories and motivations were never properly established.
7 Kinji Hakari
His epic final battle wasn't even shown
- First appearance: Chapter 153 (Manga)
At the beginning of the manga, Kinji Hakari was recognized as one of the most talented and powerful sorcerers. When this rejected student later made his debut, he certainly didn't disappoint as he took part in some of the most stunning and amazing fights in the series, thanks to his Pachinko-themed domain extension.
Hakari also played a crucial role during the final battle when he separated Sukuna from his subordinate Uraume. This unseen encounter was very disappointing as most readers expected him to show off his unique abilities again. He didn't even manage to defeat them, as the Uraume killed themselves after Sukuna's death. In the last chapter, it is suddenly revealed that Hakari and Kirara will resume training at Jujutsu Tech, which seemed like a rapid development.
6 Hajime Kashimo
Went from huge threat to fodder for Sukuna
- First appearance: Chapter 158 (Manga)
Hajima Kashimo was an incarnate wizard 400 years ago who wielded electric cursed energy. He quickly demonstrated how incredibly powerful he was when he defeated countless players in the Culling Game, including Panda. After all, Kasima had one goal in mind: to fight Ryomen Sukuna himself.
Hakari successfully convinced Kashimo to fight on their side, leading to his immediate deployment against Sukuna during the Shinjuku Showdown Arc. He even used his most dangerous technique called the Amber Mythical Beast, but it wasn't enough to defeat the Curse King, who quickly disposed of him with no problem. Despite their intriguing final power talk, the fact that Kashimo ended up being used as fodder for Sukuna's display of power was rather anticlimactic.
5 Miguel Odual
Kenya's most powerful sorcerer has quietly returned to his homeland
- First appearance: Chapter 0-3 (manga) Jiu-jutsu Kaisen 0 (anime)
Existence Miguel Odual presented a very interesting concept Jiu-jutsu Kaisen: the prospect that there are sorcerers in other countries who are almost as powerful as Satoru Gojō, and who have also influenced the societies of their countries. However, this brilliant concept was never fully explored by the time the manga ended, not to mention not much was shown about Yuta's training in Africa.
While Miguel did get a chance to show off his impressive abilities during the final fight against Sukuna, he was transported when things got too difficult, only to later see him return to Kenya as usual. Is that all? Miguel is an extremely powerful wizard, so it would be interesting to find out what curses and wizards he has to deal with in his country and how his experiences in Japan have affected him.
4 Yuki Tsukumo
The strongest female wizard was unceremoniously killed
- First appearance: Chapter 50 (Manga) Episode 20 (Anime)
As the only female wizard of special rank and Aoi Tōdō's mentor, fans have been waiting Yuki Tsukumo to show their abilities in full for a considerable number of years. She eventually got the chance to do so in an intense battle against Kenjaku, and with her powerful techniques and arrogant personality, she could become one of the most popular characters in the series.
However, Yuki unfortunately couldn't survive the encounter with one of the main antagonists and was suddenly killed when Kenjaku used an anti-gravity technique out of nowhere. It was disappointing because after so many years of building up, Yuki was killed off in the blink of an eye, which weakened the impact of her entire character.
3 Nobara Kugisaki
She finally reappeared with only a few chapters left in the manga
- First appearance: Chapter 3 (manga) episode 2 (anime)
Processing by Gege Akutami Nobara Kugisaki character had a split. While she was introduced as the main female character in the series and quickly established herself as a likeable friend and a powerful magician, she left the story after a fatal encounter with Mahito during the Shibuya incident.
For years, fans have wondered whether or not Nobara actually died. Eventually, she reappeared in the story in chapter 267, where she helped Itadora finish off Sukuna with her Resonance technique. As epic as this moment was, the manga ended after only 4 chapters, with Nobara absent for most of its duration. She was finally restored and resumed her normal life, with no clear resolution to her story, if it can even be considered that she had one in the first place.
2 Kenjak
One of the main antagonists didn't even get a proper send off
- First appearance: Chapter 10 (manga) episode 5 (anime)
An evil sorcerer Kenjak had a personal conflict with the two main characters of the series: Satoru Gojo because he possessed his best friend's body and sealed him in the Prison Kingdom, and Yuji Itadori because he possessed the woman who would become his mother in order to create the perfect vessel for Sukuna.
Despitethese intense personal feuds, neither Gojo nor Itadori had the chance to fight or even interact with Kenjaku before he was suddenly killed by Yuuta. There's no denying that his comedic final battle with Fumihiko Takaba was one of the most brilliant moments in the entire manga, but it's a shame that so little of Kenjaku was shown after his decisive defeat. Takaba is later seen preparing a new comedy program with a man who looks a lot like Geta. Is it supposed to be some form of Kenjaku?
1 Satoru Gojo
He was successfully unsealed only to die a few chapters later
- First appearance: Chapter 0-1 (manga) episode 1 (anime)
To this day, Satoru Gojo death is one of the most controversial moments in everything Jiu-jutsu Kaisen. It's an interesting idea on paper, as he's such an undeniably strong character that his death left a huge void in the jujutsu community, and Sukuna would have taken over if not for Gojo's friends and allies.
The problem is that Gojo was sealed away in the Kenjaku Prison Realm and thus was completely absent from the story for almost 140 chapters. Unlike Nobari, Gojo was killed just a few chapters after his reintroduction. The fight itself was exciting – one of the best in the series – but Sukuna's victory felt cheap and undeserved.
Gojo did have a great influence on Itadori, who would carry on his legacy, but it wasn't enough for such a beloved icon. Gojo was a really interesting and complex character, so it's a shame that he was cut from the manga in such an unpleasant way.
