Key conclusions
- A trailer for an alleged James Bond game from Lego has appeared online.
- This trailer was reportedly created as a pitch from The Lego Group for a potential green light.
- Lego allegedly scrapped the idea on the grounds that James Bond was too violent and sexual to turn into a Lego game.
Lego has had many crossovers with popular franchises in the past, including Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Marvel, Pirates of the Caribbean (the best), DC, and more. If it's a well-known, popular IP, chances are there's a Lego game about it, although one franchise that Lego has never approached in video game form is James Bond.
Lego has a physical set for James Bond in an Aston Martin DB5, but has never been tempted to turn the franchise into a video game. However, a trailer for the canceled Lego James Bond game has surfaced online, and it seems that the developer of Traveler's Tales wanted to use the world's most famous spy in their video game.
James Bond Canceled Lego Game Trailer Reportedly Leaked
This trailer was recently posted on the Legogaming subreddit by user Kecskecske6 and is a fairly rough selection of clips from what are believed to be in-game cutscenes, all with that iconic James Bond theme. We don't know exactly how many movies this game would cover, although there are scenes based on the likes of A View to Kill and Live and Let Die.
As for why this game was canceled, the Legogaming mod subreddit LEGOGameMuseum seems to have the answer. In a post on Reddit, they explain that this was an idea for a full James Bond game that was scrapped, and that this trailer was prepared as a potential pitch for The Lego Group to potentially get greenlit. This is believed to have been done during the final year of Lego Dimensions in 2016, when many at Travelers Tale knew the game would no longer be supported.
Unfortunately, the Lego Group itself allegedly abandoned the idea for this game, as they felt that the James Bond IP was too violent and sexual to adapt it into a Lego game. But that was back in 2016, and with a collaboration like Lego Horizon Adventures, you wonder if the idea could be revisited and adapted to be more family-friendly.
In any case, it's a shame to see the James Bond Lego game canceled, but at least James Bond fans will be fed well soon enough as Hitman, developed by IO Interactive, has its own game based on the spy in in development for some time. We haven't seen much of it yet, though we may be in for a reveal with The Game Awards just around the corner.
