DUBAI: The picturesque city of Aix-les-Bains is poised to host a historic event as France hosts its first international camel race at the 2024 Paris Olympics, although the event is not linked to the summer games.

Featuring jockeys from the Dubai Arabian Desert Camel Riding Centre, this groundbreaking event will feature two 300m races on August 4.

This initiative aims to expand the appeal of camel sport in Europe, introducing new audiences to the excitement and cultural significance of this traditional sport. The race coincides with the Olympic Games in France, adding to the variety of disciplines and athletes present in the country.

“Although we have been racing camels in France for several years now, we are incredibly excited to finally compete with jockeys from Dubai. This makes the event much more interesting from a global point of view,” said Olivier Filippino, organizer of the event.

“This event opens a new chapter in global camel racing competition and we are honored to host top international teams such as ADCRC from Dubai. Their participation highlights the growing interest and commitment to the sport of camel riding around the world.”

French expat Caraly Virulo, who discovered her passion for camel racing in Dubai, expressed her excitement at the sport gaining recognition in her home country, while Isabella Leslie, another athlete from Dubai, said she was delighted to be taking part in France and witness sports. an expanding audience supported by her new sponsorship with American businessman and racehorse owner Mike Repol.

Jennifer Reggio, who was born and raised in the UAE, also said she was looking forward to sharing her love and passion for camel racing with an international audience in France.

Not only the champion riders from Dubai, but also Prince Fahd bin Jalavi from the International Camel Racing Federation will take part in the races.
