Metaphor: ReFantazio has many followers that offer unique perks to help you on your journey, and party members even give combat perks while they're being used on the front lines. After reaching the maximum rank of a follower who is a member of the group, you will receive a Grand Fantasy bonus that tells you that they are ready for a heroic incarnation.

This can be done fairly early in the game, especially with party members you get right away, although the game isn't clear on what a heroic incarnation is. To unlock the royal archetype, you must first reach the maximum rank of this follower spending free time with them.
