How to play ranked matches in OW2

Quick links

Playing Supervision 2 all of its modes can be a lot of fun, but we all know that there's one mode where things get really serious – competitive. Playing competitively puts you directly against other players with similar skills in an organized manner, which means (ideally) fewer trolls and more focused people.

Need a blast from the past?

The team behind Overwatch 2 has changed the conditions for entering competitive mode. That's why we've come up with this guide to tell you everything you need to know. Follow these lines and you'll be competitive in no time.

How to unlock competitive mode

To access competitive mode, you need to pass the First-Time User Experience (FTUE) feature and win 50 games in Quick Play (pass the Competitive Play Qualification). FTUE is a casual FPS tutorial that shows you the basics of the game. Quick Play is what some other games would call casual or unranked matches.

You can follow the progress of the Competitive Play Qualification by following the link Main Menu > Challenges > Lifespan.

The change was introduced after October 4th, 2022 so that new players who jump into the game and don't know much about the characters or the gameplay, don't spoil the matches of more experienced players.

Even though getting 50 wins may seem like a big task, it really isn't, and once you get there, you'll get to know how all 41 heroes work. If you don't want to play some or most of them, it's important that you understand how they work so you can better help them if they are on your team or counter them if they are on the opposing team.

Completing the two initial trials will not give you a competitive rank. You will still need to complete the calibration match this will help the game determine your starting rating.

Not all players must pass the Competitive Play and FTUE qualifying challenge. First, if you completed challenges in the past and return to Overwatch 2 after a while, the game will save your progress and you can immediately jump into competitive play.

secondly, if you purchased Overwatch before the release of Overwatch 2, you will not need to complete the two original tasks.
