Luma Island: How to upgrade your tools
Luma Island has plenty of tools to help you do whatever you need, but they need to be updated as you enter new areas.
How to get a goat
Before you get the goat, and then the goat milk, you need to buy the goat skin pattern from the image shop next to Balthazar's shop. It costs 10,000 gold coins, so it may be a while before you can afford it Luma Island. Once you have the schematic, you will need to build a barn on your farm. You will need the following materials for it:
- 20 mountain boards
- 25 fern leaves
- Five copper bars
- 10 moonstone ingots
The mountain planks and moonstone can only be found after you reach the mountain, so you'll need to unlock it before you can finish building the goat shed. Mountain Boards can be crafted in the Sawmill with Mountain Wood, but to get enough moonstone ore for the bars, you'll need to enter the Mountain Cave. To find it, just turn left and follow the path as you first enter the mountain.
After you build the barn, you will need to buy goats from the farm shop in town. They cost 5000 gold each and you can house two goats at a time. Just remember to build a fence around their barn to keep them from wandering off.
How to get goat milk
You can get goat milk by feeding the goats in your barn with hay once a day. You can get hay by chopping any grass with your axe, and you can drop it on the ground for your Goats to eat by using the R key.
To make your life easier, you can also invest in a trough and fill it with hay so that your Goats always have something to eat even when you are away. It will also save you the effort of tossing hay to them once a day. You can get the blueprint for the trough in the image shop and it costs 10,000 gold coins. However, unlike a goat shed, the material costs for its construction are much lower:
- Five Farm Wood
- One copper ingot
- 50 hay
Goats are also useful for driving away foxes Luma Island. Foxes start to appear when you bring chickens to your farm, and they force the chickens to hide in their coop – meaning they don't lay eggs or kill the bugs that are bothering your plants. You can usually get rid of the foxes by chasing them yourself and they will run away for the day, but they show up every morning. So having a goat around them saves you a lot of time and keeps your chickens safe.
