Merry Christmas! What did dear Saint Nick leave under the tree for the Helldivers 2 community this year? Oh… it's a giant wormhole in Meridia.
“Leading astrophysicists from the Ministry of Science have gathered there to scrutinize the Meridian Singularity,” the announcement reads, as noted by Reddit user Murderboi. “The singularity is not an ordinary black hole, as many ignorant people believe.
“This is essentially the first observed case of a wormhole: a space-time tunnel connecting two different points in space. Much remains to be explored. It is not clear if the wormhole was recently formed or if it has existed for some time. already”.
Super-Earth's military is now investigating whether the wormhole is connected to the Illuminati's sudden re-emergence. They were exiled and defeated at the end of the first game, leaving many unanswered questions as to why they decided to rejoin the war after so long.
Some believe that the Illuminate we are currently fighting is actually the same as the original, and that the wormhole got messed up over time. In this case, Super Earth battles highly advanced alien squid in the past and present, directly connecting the two games. At least it's a fun idea. But others think it could be an entirely new faction.
Everyone wants to jump
Give a Helldiver a hole and they will happily jump to their death. Almost everyone wants to to dive without thinking to find out what was on the other side.
“I voluntarily enter the wormhole,” reads the top comment.
“So… we'll COME through the wormhole and LIBERATE whatever we find on the other side. Right?” wrote one slightly enthusiastic fan.
“Okay guys, I got it,” another commenter wrote, pinning a GIF of Kratos falling off a cliff in God of War.
Whatever lies at the other end of this wormhole, I doubt it will benefit Super Earth. But hey, at least we have plenty of volunteers willing to jump headfirst into the abyss.
