Guide to Echoes of the Past in Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Echoes of the Past is the very first companion quest for Bellary, one of the main companions in the Dragon Age: The Veilguardwhich opens very early in the game. It's pretty straightforward for the most part, mostly recycling puzzles players have seen before, but there are some minor variations and a tricky puzzle that can be difficult to solve.

This guide covers everything that can be done in Echoes of the Past, all the possible dialogue choices that Ladja can make and their consequences, and how to solve each puzzle within.

How to run Echoes of the Past in Dragon Age: The Veilguard

To run Echos of the Past, you must first complete two story quests “Smuggled Relic Case” and “A sea of ​​blood.” Afterwards, return to the Beacon and talk to Bellara to trigger a cutscene where she can't repair Nadas Dirthalen, the eighth archive. Then advance the main story by doing “Shadows of Minrathaus” story quest and return to Bellary. Talk to her to trigger the Echo of the Past side quest.

Head to the Crossroads and follow the quest marker to return to Arlathan Forest. Direct fast travel to this location may not be available unless you have researched the Crossroads beforehand. Defeat Antaam and unlock the path ahead to reach the Forest (this also contributes to the Winding Paths side quest). Follow the quest marker to reach the Eluvian returning to Arlathan Forest. Head north to the lighthouse to finally start the quest.

Belara wants Rook to help her with three cube puzzles in Echoes of the Past. Here are their solutions.

Solution to cube puzzle #1

There are two power crystals that you need to find and place near the artifact that repairs Bellar.

• Power Crystal #1: Right behind Bellary, at the far end of the room.
• Power Crystal #2: Across from the first power crystal floating near the barrier and the table.

Solution to cube puzzle #2

There are three power crystals here.

• Power Crystal #1: To find it, climb the rubble next to the golden door.
• Power Crystal #2: Just behind Bellary, hidden by some destructible wooden crates.
• Power Crystal #3: Go up the stairs behind Bellary.

Solution of cube puzzle #3

There are two power crystals here.

• Power Crystal #1: Hit the wooden beam next to Bellara to create a path to the other side. Go up the stairs on the right to find it.
• Power Crystal #2: Use Power Crystal #1 on the cube at the far end of the room, behind where Belara is working. Use the stone bridge you just created to get to the other side and get the second power crystal.

On the same balcony as Power Crystal #1, there is a door with a breakable lock. Inside you'll find 3x Heartwood, 45 Gold, a Caretaker Power Memento, and a Pursuant's Implements skin.

Bellara Dialogue Choices in Echoes of the Past

After you complete all three cube puzzles in Echoes of the Past in Dragon Age: The Veilguardyou will be prompted to approach Bellary when she is standing on the balcony nearby. This will trigger a cutscene in which Belara shares the reason she's checking and rechecking the artifacts so intensely: her brothers. During this conversation, there will be two dialogue circles with different options.

Which dialogue option you choose during this dialogue is purely cosmetic and has nothing to do with the game except for this particular cutscene. Bellara will not approve or disapprove of any choice you make here.
